There are people that will boot-lick Toyota on this one and tell you it's a "Theft Deterrent."
However, I can attest.... Both Ford and Chevrolet will let you remote start the vehicle either by fob or app and then it will stay on when you get in. It won't unlock the steering column or the gear shifter until a key fob is detected in the vehicle. There are even newer Toyotas that work this way too.

So Toyota selling it to us as a "theft deterrent" and those that guzzle the koolaide are just settling for a poorly designed product disguised as a theft deterrent to explain lazy engineering. I'm surprised they didn't try to pass off the frame rusting recall as a theft deterrent.

Don't Buy It.
Don't Believe It.
Don't Settle For It.
And Don't Let Toyota Off The Hook - they are better than this.

I don't understand all of the people who complain about this. In the 4 seconds it takes to restart your truck after climbing in, all of the heat must escape the cabin and they freeze while waiting for the heater to kick on. Unless I'm a getaway driver, I'm never in such a hurry that I can't wait for my truck to start.
