Then it’s not the MSRP, MSRP is required on the window sticker. You’re talking dealer addendum. That’s like me saying I bought a new Z06 for $40,000 off MSRP because the dealer added a ADM to it (That I negotiated off, just an example didn’t actually buy a Z07). It’s misleading.

Sometimes I wonder about the drastic decline in IQs, and often wonder about the dismal abilities of people per reading comprehension... and then I get over it and just let them do their thing and go on to do mine. It's nice to know and accept that I'm not responsible for other people and their misunderstandings.

I’m sorry you don’t understand how MSRP works. But go on and continue telling people you got $10,000 off.

Thanks for proving my contention about the lack of reading comprehension.

Yet you don’t bother to explain how your MSRP with dealer add ons is the same as TSRP or MSRP that’s on the sticker? Enlighten all of us idiots please

Honestly, not going to get much, sh*t happens. If it doesn’t already have one, ask if they’ll at least throw in a decent Tonneau cover at their cost for the inconvenience and call it a day. It’s a cheap item ($200-400) and nice gesture. Many dealerships will make it up to their loyal customers without losing $. If they say no, don’t burn bridges.

Definitely possible. Here is an example of the deals I negotiated for my father-in-law‘s 2017 Rav4. 2-choices from same dealer: 23.6% off OR 17.1% off with a 0% interest loan.IMG_6894.jpg IMG_6895.jpg

South Carolina is weird. At that time it was a $39 fee and a cap of $500 on taxes paid on a new vehicle. But every year you have to pay a property tax, which for a $25,000 vehicle is probably in the range of $500 or so. I think it was $720 for my Tacoma this year.
Not sure what you don’t get about the rest. It’s all right there in black and white.

Pre-covid? Yeah possible on RAV4s, which were over-produced appliances like toaster ovens. Now? Getting significant discounts off MSRP means compromising on the vehicle configuration you want and buying unpopular models/trims.

LOL... It's always so entertaining how the guys that couldn't or wouldn't try to get a deal read these kinds of things and either refuse to believe or make excuses for why you got your deal... as though it's impossible for them.

Instead of just asking some intelligent questions so they can do it next time. Failure mindset before they even consider what it takes. Forever skeptical of the people that didn't pay too much... and forever trusting of the dealerships that scalp them.

Thanks for posting your example. Good for you.

Doesn’t just happen either. Many many hours of research, calling many many dealers and finding the ones to play ball and pitting them against each other. The amount of time required, is very likely and understandably, not worth it for many people from an hourly wage standpoint.

Definitely. Even with those compromises on a current Tacoma, you’re doing really well if you get 2% off.
Best i’ve ever done on a Tacoma was 15.6% off.

In fact... for most people the actual negotiation will be better "hourly return" than anything they will ever realize as a wage. And the learning process? It can be hours and hours of research... or it can be being curious and listening to other people's experiences and using your mind to figure it out. And whatever you learn can be applied to the rest of your life in all kinds of useful ways. It can be going down to your local dealerships to intentionally look and test drive for entertainment... and walk out... until they wonder why you never buy and they offer to negotiate. These deals don't happen the same way for everyone. The dealerships see it as a serious game that makes them more money if they play it better than anyone else. And they have a very big lack of respect for those that swallow their shtick as though they are completely believable. And they have strategies they've developed over decades, hell... centuries, to wring money out of wallets that they have passed down, while consumers have been schooled that they are helpless.

The point being, that consumers have all the power until they refuse to use it. The dealerships NEED to sell cars. But the consumer doesn't often NEED to buy. The dealership creates need that doesn't exist in the customer's mind. If you go into a dealership with the mindset that you MUST buy... then they already have you. If you go in prepared to walk out until they provide something of value for a price you are willing to pay... then you have all the power. And the more people there are that refuse to negotiate, the harder it is for ALL of us to negotiate.

I would guarantee that I could get even the most hardened, calculating dealership to be negotiable if I could get all of their customers to let me make their deals for them. Or even better, if every customer would come in and test drive and walk out for a month... without making any offers at all.

These guys are playing us like fish on a line. We can play them too. And it can be fun.
