Wow that is cool! Thanks for posting it.

Yeah, we all say we want one of those. The truth is that nearly everyone that got the full glory of the 9-leaf experience couldn't wait to get back in their Tacoma.

If I was to get a limited it’d have to be a nightshade. I think (I’d hope) Toyota knows chrome isn’t for the 4Runner buyer so they decide to do an optional blackout package for $$$ instead of doing the right thing and leave the chrome off.

What exactly (typically) changes in a turbo tune?

Boost pressure, timing curves, fueling tables.

since it’s relatively easy to increase boost, a tune does a lot more for a forced induction motor than an NA tune

Boost pressure is software controlled or mechanically controlled?

If it's software (which I assume it is), how exactly is it controlled?

Thanks, and please excuse my ignorance.

A turbocharger can generally produce more mass of air than an engine can process at any given time. The boost pressure (and therefore mass of air) is controlled by a “wastegate,” which adjusts how much exhaust goes into the turbine side of the turbo. more exhaust means more energy used to compress intake air. When the wastegate is open, more exhaust bypasses the turbo, decreasing energy used to compress air.

Early wastegates were controlled by means of a spring or dashpot, so you could swap springs and change boost pressure. Modern installations use an electronic wastegate. So you can modify the mass of air into the engine by changing how that wastegate operates.

fuel and timing schedules are basically adjusted to match the larger mass of air. However, too much boost increases heat, so there’s a practical limit to how much more air you can just shove into the engine. Also, turbochargers have practical limits to how much air they can process.

    Got it.

I guess increasing bost pressure over stock is essentially cashing out longevity and buying performance with it.

I wonder if the fuel injectors are of a high enough capacity to feed a higher-than-stock charge pressure.

On an absolute level, you’re probably exchanging some longevity. But there’s probably a lot that can be done with relatively little impact.

I told my wife I’m so sick of the back and forth I’m just gonna go through with it and if I hate it try something else. Life is too short and honestly dumb stressing over which truck to buy (first world problems).

I drove myself nuts trying to decide what to get…everything from Subarus to F350s, seriously!

Really can’t go wrong with a Tacoma, it just fits that in between Goldilocks vehicle, while not perfect it is pretty darn close.

and I still do the “what if this…? or what if that…?” Constantly looking and creating solutions to problems I don’t have, some sort of sickness I have, no idea how it started, and pretty sure it will never end. :D

You need to get that 4G, and your wife needs a GX550… ;)

I think that’s what we decided on cause we both can upgrade for the price of me just upgrading to a raptor. I was eyeballing some glacier grey SDs at work yesterday but I don’t need a one ton $80k truck. Do love the new but classic look. Tacomas def are my comfort vehicle

    and Merry Christmas!!!

Looked really hard at the Super Duty’s. Love how they look, have that early 80s square body vibe to them, would swallow all my camp gear with ease. Can certainly afford feeding the damn thing, but would be awful as a daily, riding in my buddy’s F350 for long hours pretty much cured me of that want. Then looked at a Subaru Outback, much better daily, but would get really tight camping. So the Tacoma was the compromise, great daily, and pretty good at traveling/camping.

Why Toyota sells every last one of them. Great all arounder.

I just feel a little claustrophobic in the taco with all the kids...still not sure if I want full size though
I love hitting the trails and a midsize is just right

With kids probably make it work until they got bigger. We grew up in regular cab pickups, of course didn’t use car seats back then, and riding in the bed wasn’t frowned upon like it is today. We also did have a Jeep Wagoneer for family outings though. The truck was mainly used for work.

Minvans are arguably the best thing for families, but are deemed uncool. Why there has a been a rise of third row SUVs.

I'm Canadian and outdoorsy ...I don't do mini vans lol
If I wasn't so tall it would be ok. My one little boy sits behind me so he is always kicking my seat
