I replaced the lower control arms on our 2009 Venza V-6, and have two observations:

    1. My heavy wrenching days are rapidly coming to a close. I hurt in places that I didn't even know that I had.
    2. Whoever the idiot at Toyota is that decided to cover a bolt on each side under a motor mount needs to be smacked.

OK, grumpy rant over - time for a heating pad and a Goody powder...

    Morning all

I am slowly realizing what I can and shouldn't do. Last time I needed to work on the suspension, I took it to a shop.

I think I hurt myself writing the check

Yeah, cheapest price I could find to do the job was $1400 and I could get the parts for $160. I just viewed it as getting paid a lot to do the job myself. The originals lasted 15 years, if I get that much out of these, I likely will be past caring (Late 50's) or capability of doing it again. At least I have $1240 in my pocket to spend on vacation next month!

I know what you mean. I have a front suspension/steering rebuild that’s overdue on my ‘09 E250 van. $500 worth of parts is affordable. The $2k+ in labor isn’t. Every year I say, “I’m getting too old for this shit.” Every year I dive in and say, “This is the last time!”

At your age I did the work myself.

At 63 I say to myself, I can do it. But I know better

Well I had an appointment with my GP today. A follow up from a couple of weeks ago. My blood pressure is high and got put on some meds. Today it’s still high and a medication adjustment. Then we had the talk, if I ate better, no salt, no sugar, no processed food, I wouldn’t have to take the meds.
Hell, if I knew it was that easy, rice and Garbonzo beans. :bananadance:
Can’t wait to see my cardiologist

Do what you can to keep things in check. Don't do what I did and have a heart attack at 50.

Happy day-after-Christmas, everyone! I forgot to turn on the phone alarm for work, so I just called out and will go get the T4R tail pipe sniffed for the last time. I will switch to 'Historic' tags in March when the registration expires.

I made a traditional-ish dinner for Christmas - grilled Kielbasa, garlic mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, Jewish rye and C'wikla ( I can't get WIN 10 to override the language keyboard setting to add in the correct Polish 'C'), which is a horaseraddish and beet mixture.

Santa brought Rugby his first catnip toy, it was well received! :D

I hope that everyone got some good memories from the Holiday.

I was amazed at how quickly my body recovered from smoking cigs. I was also amazed at how much better I felt, because I didn’t think I felt all that bad. Good luck! It’s worth the effort.

I did the oil change on the 4Runner about twice removing skids and laying on the concrete that’s when I made some adjustments.

I have an oil drain hole on the skid.

They did a two bolt plate for the drain plug but they forgot about the filter. But they did put hooks on it so it can swing down.

Listen to your doctors also weight loss helps

My BP was 132 /89 for quite a few years and just by losing 60lbs of weight and was noticing healthier BP readings of 118/ 78

I had high blood pressure a few years ago and just recently in the past year was diagnosed with Orthostatic hypotension . This when your blood pressure drops suddenly when standing up . You suddenly feel dizzy , I have seen BP readings as low as 108 / 68

I'm now on Propanolol 20mg x2 per day

but at least you had the sense to quit. dad smoked for years too but finally quit about 10 years ago.
same for quitting drinking. if you had asked me before if i got hangovers i would have said no. now i think that i was just living in a constant state of being hungover and never associated it to being caused by drinking, just thought that i'm over 40 now and my body is just going to hurt forever.

well in the sense of paying for Taco repair.....

upper control arms, lower ball joints, 4 wheel alignment.... $1K total

not sure if i should be unhappy about that or not, but 20 years ago i sure wouldnt have paid for it to be done.
