Started the last of the glue ups. 3 more to go.

 

Showing some love to a train set my woodworking uncle made at least 40 years ago.

 

Had a good day in the shop today. I started squaring up and dimensioning the leg glue ups. I ran the new planer through its paces, works excellent!
These are the leg end cross stretchers. They are not to final size yet.

These will eventually be finished at 5 1/2" square.

I filled a knot with CA.

The leg uprights are now squared up as well. They also need to be finish dimensioned to 5 1/2" square.

Another cross stretchers is in the clamps, 1 more to go.

Very cool brother! Chainsaw milling is how I get my lumber. Great looking table and the kiddos seem happy to be with it as well.

 

I like that last pic, very nice blend of wood and metal.

 

Ya that was a fun little build. I post some of the stuff I build and was asking 350$ for that piece since it’s all hand made and a guy says he only sees 35$. People are pretty cheap and never buy my stuff lol

 

People have no idea how much the materials cost or how much time you put into something.
It's why I don't even try and sell my work. It's just a hobby for me, a passion, my escape from the world. At some point maybe when I retire I may dable with selling some stuff, but not right now. I have a job to make money, my woodworking is an escape from that.

 

Why such a lightweight build? That workbench will be sliding all over the place when you try hand planing!

Your work is a beautiful base for the piece. I am sure they appreciate it.

 

The last glue up is finally in the clamps. Soon the really wood working will begin, joinery.

Well I had a good day in the shop today. Took the last glue up out of the clamps and jointed 2 sides. Ran the 4 cross stretchers through the planer to dimension them. Dumped the dust collector drum again, theres 3 bags of chips on the curb this week for the trash. And I modified my new planes dust chute to exit on the other side.

Today's shop progress. Got all the leg stock finish dimensioned to 5 1/2" square.

Then I ripped the long cross stretchers to width.

Cut, flip, cut....

Then I ran them through the planer for a light cut to clean them up and get to final dimension.

Cross stretchers are now dimensioned.

Cut one end of the legs square and then marked the other end to cut them to length.

I cut them on the table saw, cut, flip, cut.

My incra miter gage is very accurate.

 

All the leg stock is now cut to length.

Did some layout for the mortices.

More layout, did both ends.

Calculated how long to make the short cross stretchers and tennon size too.
