I found this keeps rats out of my vehicles engine bays, knock on wood, no mice in my cab yet. Its not poisonous so if you don't mind the evergreen scent, you can put a bag in the cab to keep them out from there.

Since you are in Santa Cruz, B&B Small Engine Shop (Behind the REI) routinely sells this.

Don’t know if anyone mentioned the pressure relief vents/ports on the back of the cab.

Genius, with the added bonus of the only tire that gains tread over time.

Just food for thought. I have a neighbor who parks outside and has had pack rats eat through his wiring harness on several occasions. He swears by using light as a deterrent. So he parks a couple construction site style flood lights under his vehicle each night, with extension cords running to them from his house. He claims he's not had anymore pack rat problems for the past several years since adopting this strategy. Might be worth a shot. Apparently the rats really avoid the light and want to stay in the dark

If you remove the front fenders you will see a bunch of small openings in the fender mount rail. The rails are tied into the front cowl area, so if you really want to keep mice out of the cowl, remove both fenders and use some urethane adhesive to glue more hardware cloth over every hole. I did that 13 years ago and have not had any mice get in since. It’s the only way to do it that works 100%.

Just discovered the air vents in the back wall of the cabin while doing a rear seat delete. Looks like mice have been munching on my vents! both sides have 1/4 of the vent that's open to the atmosphere, while the other 3/4 has a one-way flap. cabin-vent-pass.jpg
