Yeeeesh, so my UCA is toast, and I don't want to put another set of SPCs on there - I was gonna switch to the DK tubular uppers when the SPCs wore out again anyway. Had to call almost 20 places to find one that actually had a set of DKs ready to ship, but I found some.

Minor sos. I have family in Randolph ma. They have a house about the same size as mine - 1200 sqft. I think they even said theirs is 11. They had mass save come in etc and are trying to sort this out. They're getting billed for about 800KwH per month. They had national grid come out and checked the meters and whatnot. They're trying to figure out where it's going.

They don't have electric heat. They have a heat pump but that's "it". It's consistent at 800KwH. They confirmed with Nat grid that the prior owners had the same usage, which is "good" but still doesn't help them figure out where it's going.

Anyone got the goods on being able to help out? Any ideas? Let me know.

For reference we have central air, piped NG heat/hot water, do (what I think) is an excessive amount of laundry using the electric dryer. Here's our usage for the past 12 months. This is why they're flabbergasted on where app their electricity is going.

you guys can plug different appliance to an outlet monitor. It can tell you how much each item is using. I was using those during my crypto mining days thinking I’d do an llc and deduct the usage lol..

The heat pump is essentially electric heat just more efficient than baseboard electric. Their electric bill will be high but they don’t have a gas or oil bill so it should work out ok.

The heat pump is new, and the prior owners had an 800 kWh month use too.

I’m guessing town water right? And electric hot water?

99% sure town water and sewer.

I don't think it's electric heat. Unfortunately they're out of town until the 29th so I'll ask them some questions (and I've had some other contacts too) and I'll get clarity on that but i think it's gas heat and hot water, electric heat pump.

The advice so far is (get an electrician to) pull the panel and start checking loads for a short.

Anyone here is or know an MA electrician or recommendations? That's probably above the DIY level they (or i) would be comfortable doing.

Is there a way to monitor what current usage is? If so you can shut off circuit breakers one at a time until you see where the culprit is for the big user. For comparison, here is what my electric bill is with a heat pump in Maine. I would love to be at about 800KwH per month!

Yeah I'm going to bring that up, they might be able to rent one from the library too. So when they get back I'm going to get them some questions and suggestions.

We were talking about it over Xmas festivities though.

I'd be willing to bet that's it. Electric hot water is a huge consumer.

Here's us - top graph is a 40 gallon electric water heater. Bottom graph is a 50 gallon hybrid heat pump water heater, starting in February. We are consistently saving over 200 kwh per month since the switch:

    upload_2023-12-27_16-11-34.png
    upload_2023-12-27_16-11-50.png

We're two people - 1500 sq ft house, heat pump hot water, electric range, electric dryer. Heat is oil HW baseboard and pellet stove. Cooling is primarily an 18,000 BTU mini split.
