replace battery cables?

I understand 1st gen’s are older. And maybe came with thinner wires

my wires probably look good and so might yours
Have worked on cars of this era and none of them have been old enough to have deteriorated wires

like getting hands on the wires required to remove them for removing engine work, they always look fine

don’t get me wrong. I kind of want JeepCables. They look nice and are thicker
but not if it’s a solution in search of a problem, stock wires fine, would be waste of money. Especially with no other major electrical changes like higher amp alternator upgrade.

anyone I see replace stock beat wires their vehicle always looks older and more corroded

 

You're probably right in that I don't NEED them. But I do need a new battery. The current terminals are those soft generic ones and have seen better days so I got the sdhq terminal kit to replace w/ the new battery.
I figured if I'm going to swap those things in, I might as well put some nice new cables in place in hopes of a little less strain on the system w/ the shabby looking wire that's exposed at the battery ends. But this is also why I think staying w/ the 2ga is better for me and the 1/0 isn't really necessary since I'm not doing a larger amp alternator or additional accessories.

 

I'm in the same boat minus already having done the SDHQ kit which I believe at the time, did not have the optional extra rubber protective boots they later came out with
that might not even fit with the stuff I have bolted onto the terminals

ideally later on that'll be relocated to a separate Bussman unit or something

I think the 1/0 is ~$40 more than 2 from them
if ordering wrap, blue or green might be less confusing than the other ones

I'm gonna ask them what they recommend why and when, and if the above symptoms are to be cause of concern or not

What's the Big 3, and why do you sell a "Big 7"?

The "Big 3" (or sometimes called "Big 4") upgrade means improving the current capacity of three cables: 1) alternator output to battery positive, 2) battery negative to frame/body, and 3) engine ground to frame/body. We don't stop there though. Our "Big 7" kits also include the leads to the starter and the fuse relay box, as well as adding an external fuse to avoid routing the increase in current capacity through the smaller fuse box wiring.

What makes these cables so special?

Do I need a bigger alternator to run these cables?

Perfect! You're probably running a power inverter, a stereo, a winch, an under hood welder, or flux capacitor. These all require more amperage than the stock alternator is capable of providing. Maybe you're not running any of these yet, but considering it, these cables will get you ready!

2GA or 1/0 GA? Which to choose?

As far as 2GA vs 1/0 GA, it's really going to depend on what mods you're going to do to. If you're staying stock, then 2GA is plenty, but if you're looking at modifying it down the road (winches/lights/etc) and want to future proof, then you'd want 1/0 GA.
