Tailgate handle

My tailgate handle is kinda broken
Need a new one, any suggestions?

 

OEM from a junkyard or eBay.
OEM brand new from parts.toyota.com.
PopNLock aftermarket handle.

 

Is kinda broken like being a little pregnant?

 

here’s how it looks, thinking maybe with a bit of force pull that rivet off instead?

 

That's got to be one of the most jimmy rigged repair I have ever seen. It looks like someone just grabbed a piece of blue painters tape, clothes hanger and a piece of half eaten slice of turkey then zip tied it together. The error was using turkey instead of the more durable ham..

 

This has to be one of the funniest things I've ever read on TW.

OP, my vote is also to start first by looking at a scrap yard as @wi_taco suggested. I've had good luck finding cheap replacement parts like this in the past.

I found an old style of pop n lock on mine on eBay, so i could lock it. every few years you hear some tailgates getting stolen.

The other one broke and I can’t do the same thing anymore so

 

Just buy a Pop ‘n’ Lock.

 

... but yeah, junk lot and get all the associated pieces that you might also break / bend getting the old stuff out...

 

Pop n lock is a deterrent if you have a hard tonneau or a lockable topper. Too easy to defeat otherwise.

There are some nice hinge security options that will keep the tailgate from being removed that you might want to explore. Even a hose clamp is helpful

 

this is nature's way of saying you need to flatbed your truck

 

I have an unused new Pop-n-lock for 2nd gen (ordered 1 and got 2 by mistake) that I'll sell + ship for less-than-new price if you're interested

 

I have a pop and lock, like i said previously and you have to tear into the back of the tailgate quite a bit to get it out or unlocked/... someone said its just a deterrent but I have the hinge security device i bought from a TW member that makes and sells occaisonally, and it would slow theives down also... it has a bolt with a special toro's head that is not so common, but not imposible to defeat.
