Ice fishing! The best way I know how to freeze to death. Unless you spend $10,000 on gear to keep you warm.

    Good morning :pccoffee:

Nice bow Marty. I miss the NC trout streams but fly fishing opens here on the first in limestone creeks in the driftless region. This year they don't even have shelf ice. Yet. So did @MTgirl take up fly fishing?! If so good deal.

Come end of March you can have someone in a $10,000 boat crowd your spot while ice fishing around here

Most in these parts have decent ice houses. An Ice Castle will set you back 6 figures

Many of the lakes have a pizza shop nearby that will deliver pizza by snowmobile to your ice shack. But that ain't no shack LOL

    Morning all

How do they know it is safe to put an ice castle and a truck on the frozen lake? How many times do they get it wrong?

The Mn. DNR keeps track of ice thickness on the larger lakes. Well most of them there are more than 14,000 lakes in Mn. Also lodge owners do the same and report it daily usually on Facebook. The Mn. DNR does daily updates well sometimes other times weekly

Yes they get it wrong sometimes, not a good look

Where people really get in trouble is using rivers like the Mississippi as an ice bridge. Always a couple of trucks a year that sink through the ice. Personally I'll take the long way around and skip River crossings. For that matter the older I get the less I'm not a fan of driving on ice period.
