Unfortunate there are so many poor drivers out there, wouldn’t need all the safety equipment. Reading an article about “accidents”, the author argued they don’t really exist, only people who refuse to pay attention, plus deliberately break the traffic laws. If people would simply obey the laws accidents would greatly diminish.

They are cheaper than a side by side. How inflated are our vehicle prices compared to the rest of the world?

What is weird most won’t. My wife was in Thailand filming a documentary, said the traffic is absolute chaos, but it works, organized chaos if you will, people don’t drive at the high speeds we do over there, they just kinda mill about.

But do be off the roads before drunk dark…

Thailand has among the highest per capita traffic deaths in the world.

and that’s at the slow speeds you’re talking about.

The point is that if they can build and sell a functional truck for $10K then you should be able to add bed sides, AC and air bags for less than an additional $30k.

Sure, but you’re also going to want other things. Like >130hp, a heater, a stereo, interior trim on the a-pillar, curved glass so it’s not 90dB inside at 65mph, the ability to even go 70mph, and hundreds of other things. And all of those things cost money.

the IMV0 would be an absolutely awesome farm truck. It would be a dreadful all-around daily compared to a tacoma

    Re: $10k truck

A non-insignificant determinant in how a product or service is priced is how much money the people will buy it have.

Probably because of all the drunk driving. She didn’t see many accidents during the day, but towards evening at night….loads and loads of drunks. Why be off the roads before “drunk dark.” :)

Turd is right, and absolute base truck should be offered, then the customer could pick and choose the options they want. Believe we can all agree how Toyota packages their US trucks is horrible. I have a base SR, lots of options on there I don’t even use and could live without, but still had to pay for them. Couldn’t even get a manual trans.

All of those minor things add up to a $40K base Tacoma. o_O

The base tacoma is $31,500, and you live in a far wealthier market than Thailand

Not sure if anyone else noticed that even though you can't build or price a TH or PRO, the full specs are available on Toyota's website. Spoiler, Iso Seats are standard, not optional on the PRO.

That’s my point. Because the US people have money we are paying much more than we should be. If Toyota can sell a truck to poor people for $10K and still make a profit then they could surely sell us vehicles for much less than they do and still make a profit.

Capitalism is a bitch, my dude. It’s about maximizing profit, not just making one and leaving money on the table

    and we are all complicit

Also don't bring up price in the segment, people don't wanna hear that a Canyon Denali is also $54,000 or a Ranger Lariat is $51,000. We live in olden times round here where our trucks are powered by a mighty V6 and our HP & torque figures are subpar!

I see the same thing with contractors. A guy will build a deck on the main line for $100,000, then build the same deck, same dimensions, materials, etc, for $50,000 in the blue-collar area.

You'll see it in grocery stores, too. The same can of whatever that sells for $2.00 in the rich area sells for $1.25 in the middle class area.
