I think I'll check the ball joints too, they're those FauxEM 555's.

    wouldn't hurt

I don't trust the prypar test quite so much. Mine tested fine but after pulling mine off they're pretty notchy and worn out. Gonna throw some new moogs in and slather them in black moly grease this time

I read some reviews on it a while back and red n tacky really didn't seem all that great. I went with some fancy valvoline grease and nothing has blown up yet...

In my mind it used to be a lot better. Been using it for over a decade... in true capitalistic fashion I think they reformulated it at some point to save on cost and made an inferior product riding on brand name alone

Valvoline makes some good stuff, especially since you can pick it up almost anywhere

This is the truck I’m looking at trading for. It would be a real coup for me if I got this I think. I’d go up to $5k on top @Kwikvette since it seems like he’s already put a lot of blood sweat and tears into the baseline. I think the 100 series is Toyota’s finest hour - it took care of the reliability issues affecting the 80 series while retaining most of its durability. Sure, the torsion bar front end isn’t going to impress people at the King of the Hammers, but it’s not like the radius mark front end of the 80 is winning any buggy competitions either. If you want a crawler, build a Jeep or mini truck. Oh, and the UZ series is the only gas engine I know of that routinely hits 500k miles without being opened.

It looks as no frills as it can get, I'd rock it.

You were doing well until you said "it took care of the reliability issues the 80 series had"

The 80 series is stupid reliable

Well I can say this without being as worried as I was just a few weeks ago

There's a shelter that's closing its doors permanently and there were over 50 dogs needing homes

We don't have the mental capacity to take on a 3rd, but if we ever did it'd be a playmate for Biscuit

It was being posted on social media (by others) that any dogs left would be euthanized

Took a bit later but the shelter itself stated no dogs would be euthanized so I was like fuck ok good, that was alarming to hear initially

Anyway, they got down to 5 left, but took in 11 more day after Christmas

Hope they all find homes soon :(

Not necessarily reliability, but you don’t have to worry about all the oil pump and oil pan leaks on the 100 other than valve cover gaskets. And they don’t really blow head gaskets either, even though that issue is overblown on the 1FZ. I just think the 100 is more reliable overall, despite sacrificing some durability with the IFS. The 80 is more reliable for tough wheeling or extended rough road use though.
