You only get one chance at this life, time is very short. If you can afford it and it gives you pleasure, who are we to judge. Some like to smoke tobacco or drink vodka or buy lottery tickets or eat McDonald's or truffles or whatever. I actually get pleasure from the hunt for "the best deal", and this is a moving target. I actually do need a truck to tow a camper and trailer and light work on a construction home site. With full sizers under MSRP, bloated prices on 2024 Tacoma MSRP, better pricing on 2023/2024 Colorado/Canyon, nose diving prices on used trucks, and mid size now as big as full size were not too long back, this is a tougher choice than I expected. Close to retirement, so more truck now does mean less of something else later. Choices.

For the amount of people that say they are going to drive their Tacoma forever and this is there last one, there sure are a lot of people paying for expensive Tacoma's. I wish I was in the "my last Tacoma camp"; I just keep crashing them. This one just had its 1-year anniversary crash free. So, last one for now, then on to the next. making memories...

I carefully research my vehicle options before buying because I tell myself this is the one I plan on driving for a long time. Then roughly three years later, almost like clockwork, I repeat the process.

Don't get me wrong, it's a fun problem to have. In the event I need a 4th gen, I'm aware of the pros and cons. When I join the EV crowd, I know where I'm going. If I need an SUV, I've got that handled too. 3 year program for you... It looks like your time is coming... tick tock

Oh...my time already came over the last two weeks. This time in multiples lol. Traded my 21 3G and wife's 21 4Runner for two new GX 460's. I plan on keeping these for a long time. :D

The original plan was to replace my Tacoma with a GX and keep the wife's 4Runner. I'm old with some health problems that could greatly benefit from the comfort and ease of access of the GX. We both liked the white exterior, but I wanted the red interior and my wife wanted black. We "compromised" on her choice of black. :)

We were out running errands etc. in the new ride and she was doing the driving. We are both motorheads at heart and that V8 was captivating. And the overall comfort was a real quality of life enhancement for both of us. After careful deliberation for 30 seconds or so I decided there was no reason we couldn't upgrade both vehicles. No regrets and I love my red interior. ;)

I noticed that red interior, and I like it. Now you have my wheels turning on what I'd get if I wanted/needed an SUV. Considering what they are, they seem reasonably priced. That's it, after 30 seconds of careful deliberation, GX 460 it is. 4-Runner, you're out. It's the last SUV I'll ever need. I'll drive it forever.

    It was a joke.

But if you must know, I haven’t made a car payment since 2021. :)

Toyota is offering 3.9% on new 2023s. Banks are offering 4.5% or more. Coupled with the negotiating power of giving the dealer a cut of the financing, paying cash is a losing proposition

Smart people don’t tell the dealer. Finance to get the best deal then pay the vehicle off.

You’d still end up behind if you can beat the financing rates with an investment

    Most people don’t have investments.

Anyone who has accumulated the cash to buy a $40k vehicle outright could have an investment instead. Not that you’ll always beat financing rates, but you can right now
