I can’t believe you got someone to install it the same day. That won’t happen here. If you want it in same day, your doing it yourself.

Yep X2, it would have been a trip to Lowe's to pick one up and come home to install for me.

I have an older takagi that’s been great but if I ever put a new one in it will be a navien

I thought the same thing but plastic won’t corrode or rust! Mine plastic ones have been holding up great.

maybe it wasn’t for the CO, I’m just guessing at this point. When I moved in they had a gas line plumbed for the water heater but had an electric one already installed. Perhaps they got an electric water heater for cheap and wanted to use that instead until it failed? I got to use the old electric line to extend into my garage for a welder so that was a benefit of removing the old electric heater!

@PennSilverTaco here is my well and water heater setup. I replaced the conditioner and pressure tank about 2 years ago

Here’s my spare water heater, and I keep a pallet of salt downstairs at all times so I never run out!

You can always tell by the amount of shut-offs if the guy doing the work, did it for himself.
Shut-offs and by-pass. Always better to more, than not enough.

I’m kind of anal when it comes to that stuff and like to set it up for my uses. Here was the setup before I replaced it.

How many nominal tons is your air-conditioner and how many square feet is the house? And what's that Ingersoll-Rand thing? Did you know that Ingersoll-Rand owns Trane and American Standard?

I believe it’s 2.5 tons, my house is around 1750 sq feet.

The IR thing is a refrigerated air dryer, a must have for running CNC and prolonging the life of pneumatic tools. I didn’t know they owned Trane and American Standard, interesting! It’s funny, I bet Disney owns ingersoll Rand, seems like only 3 or 4 companies run this country lol

Any unevenness in cooling on the second floor? I don't think I'd want a 2-story house over 1,500 square feet with only one system.

definitely not, my house is a rancher :)

if I had a two story I’d want a separate second unit for the 2nd floor.

Lucky! I'd love to have a rancher!

:amen: with regards to having two separate systems even if the house is under 2,000 square feet. Even when a single system is properly sized for a 2-story home, I feel like you have to freeze out the first floor to maintain a tolerable temperature on the second floor when it's really hot. This why my parents spent $6,000 extra to get two systems in their 3-bedroom townhouse that like 2,300 square feet if the finished basement wasn't included.

I do find that the rooms at the end of the house don’t get as hot as the center of the home in the winter and as cool as the center of the home in the summer, but I can deal with that. I use a small space heater in the winter and in the summer it doesn’t bother me. It’s the master bath and the laundry rooms at each end.

id agree, with a two story house you end up with a large temperature differential unless somehow you have a house with all interior walls, like an apartment or townhouse in the middle of two others. I grew up in a larger rancher with two AC units in the attic and radiant heat with 3 zones for the winter to avoid that excessive change in temperature within areas.

I have a gas fireplace with a blower in it in my living room so a lot of times I use that instead of turning the thermostat higher. Mr. pancake here seems to like the free heat too

Our townhouse was an end unit, two stories plus a finished basement, and the six grand extra for a separate upstairs system was worth every penny!

We have a gas fireplace, but it does not have a blower. Does your house have a wall oven, or just a range? I've lived in houses with wall ovens since September 2007, and I prefer it that way because the oven is higher off the ground.

I bet, when I finish my basement one day I plan to put a wood or maybe a pellet stove downstairs. It will make my heating bills even cheaper, heat rises!

just a range. I wish I had a wall oven. Although I don’t cook much at home since I tend to spend more time at work lol. My aunt had a double wall oven as well as a traditional stove and oven setup in her house and it was awesome. You should see if you can add a blower to your fireplace. The original owner didn’t have one but I found one online for under $100 and it makes a huge difference, otherwise most of the heat just goes right up the chimney.

I don't think I would ever need three ovens. On Christmas morning when we had the strada in the oven, my mom commented that it would be nice to have two ovens so we could get an early start on the turkey. Every house my parents had from 1988 to 2006, both owned and rented, had a regular range. Most of the time, there was a microwave above, but the place they owned Virginia Beach from 1998 to 2000 just had a hood above the stove and no built-in microwave. Every house my parents owned from 1990 to 2005 had gas heat, but only the one in Montgomery County, PA (owned 1990-1996) had a gas stove. The two Navy-owned houses in California where we lived in the late 1990s had electric heat, and the house my parents rented in Doylestown from 2005 to 2007 had oil heat and central air.

Every house my parents have owned on the east coast has had central air and gas heat. We have never lived in a house with a heat pump. Every house we lived in, again both owned and rented, from 1996 to 2007 had coil-element stove. We never had a smoothtop stove. The townhouse my parents bought brand new in 2007 had a gas cooktop with the oven and microwave built into the cabinet next to it.
