Shipmate, Most tubeless tires mount onto wheels that have a safety ridge. This is the hump next to the flange where the bead seats on the flange. For this device to work properly, you need to have the correct size tire mounted on the wheel. When you go with a wheel that is wider than the tire, you change the angle that your bead sits. This can increase the chances that you lose a bead because the device won't work properly. That isn't to say that you can't do it (I see beads stretched on imports all the time), but it isn't the best idea and while you may see them lay rubber, ask them what happens when they hit a pot hole and lose all the air in their tire at once.

Here’s a 10.5” wide tire on a 5.5” wide rim. I’ve run them as low as 12lbs off road and have never popped a bead, and I’m not talking once or twice. When I lived in Arizona it was off road nearly every weekend. A 10.5” tire on a 9” rim is more than fine.

Thank you shipmate. Nothing better than an expert opinion, I think I'll stick to the math.

Not sure why you’re calling me shipmate.

and real world, real tested operation trumps the math any day of the week.

My quick google-fu shows a factory TRD off road wheel is 16x7. With a 265/70/16 being 10.43 inches wide. You’re saying Toyota can safely put a tire that’s 3.43 inches wider on millions of Tacomas but OP will blow up if he uses the tires he wants? lol.

if Tom Cruise can push the airframe of an F-18 to 10g’s even though the manual says it can only handle 7.5g’s, I think a little wider tire on a rim won’t hurt anyone. There’s my navy reference, shipmate.

Those of us in the Navy call each other shipmate. Assume you to be a fellow sailor.

The issue isn't a 10.5 on a 7. That is acceptable and why Toyota did so. The issue is when your tires are as wide as your wheels (or wider).

    I’m confused then. So a 10.5 on a 7 is ok. A 10.5 on a 9 is not ok. A 10.5 on a 5.5 is not ok. (I’ll give you my 10.5 on a 5.5, that’s pushing it.) but the others are just fine.
