I will be picking up an ovlrn for my long bed in early November. I can follow up on some of your questions after a few test runs

That's awesome! Actually I'm selling my Tacoma, I found a first gen 2006 double cab Tundra that I'm absolutely in love with. I've only had it 3 weeks but I'm excited to order the ovrlnd camper for it. Just doing a few basic maintenance items and making sure everything is good to go before I place the order

I used to work at OVRLND as well as own one and have lived in it, done long trips, and will be spending this winter in it again (in Flagstaff, at OVRLND seasonally). Let me know if you have any specific questions, I'll probably have an answer for you.

If you place the order and want to change anything reach out to Jay and Maggie (Owners) ASAP and they'll make sure the build gets changed before work starts on it, they're really great folks and will work with you to get the options you want dialed in.

Jay and Maggie have been great to work with. They have answered all my questions and have been very patient with me. I am currently deployed, but I get to pick up my new OVRLND camper when I get home, I am so excited.

Thanks! Yeah, they've been super helpful so far on the phone and through email. I just found out that they no longer offer the full barn doors at install time. You have to buy the bottom half separate and install it yourself with the videos they made for instruction. That's kind of a bummer but I get it, I think they're time consuming to get installed. Hopefully they're not too difficult. This will be going on a 1st gen double cab Tundra that I recently bought. I'm kind of bummed to learn that it's such a odd bed size that it will only fit on a first gen Tundra. At least it would fit on a access cab and double cab just for resale down the road. I wonder if they could possibly make them a little bit wider, but then again I don't think that I would want it to be any wider than the truck. They said it's about 5 in wider for most other full-size trucks. Think that's what makes the first gen Tundra so special, a little more narrow than most trucks

anybody get the offset barn doors? wondering your reasonings, and did you get a window or two on the barn doors.

I am about to submit my build sheet and i'm going for around 70/30 ratio on the barn doors. reasoning:

    1. plan to use this truck daily with my family. kids will be opening the tailgate and a barn door to load their hockey gear inside. i figure it'll be easier/simpler for them to open one door instead of two. less fuss and quicker.

    2. same thought... easier to climb in only having to open/close one barn door instead of both. i suppose a 50/50 ratio you can still use one door, but a 70 would just be easier.

    3. will have a window on the larger barn door side for visibility when driving. the smaller door i want to keep solid (no window) and use for mounting lightweight stuff internally and externally.

Speaking of mounting stuff on barn doors... what are you guys mounting? anything heavy or mostly lightweight? I'm thinking of mounting a roll up tool bag on the inside and keeping some small camping tools/kitchen items for quick and easy access at the campsite... lighters, cleaning wipes, utensils, firestarters, etc.

Just trying to get the conversation going with this thread! Lots of good stuff in here.

Those are all the best reasons to go with the 70/30 split. I have a 80/20 split on mine and could've done 70/30. Making sure the larger door is the primary door is key. Having the small door is nice too if you want to hang a bike or some lumber out the back (Driving with the door open/latched is OFFICIALLY NOT RECOMMENDED but I do it frequently with no issues, just do so at your own risk.

As for mounting make sure it's known you want to do so and they can add an extra stud in the door to serve as a mounting point and to rigidify the whole door. I've seen rotopax, 5-10lb propane tanks. I don't think they'll mount anything too heavy like a 5gal jerry can due to door sag but you can shim the bottom of the door with a metal plate that replaces the rubber gasket so the weight is primarily on the tailgate and mount them yourself, it'll just void warranty on the door. Internally tool rolls are super clutch for misc. storage. Here's a pic of some tool rolls hanging off the inside of a barn door, he said he got them off Amazon years ago so I'm sure you can find something similar: https://www.instagram.com/p/CTADCYqnJxB/

That looks awesome! I'm seriously considering a 80/20 split instead of 70/30. How wide is your 80 and do you feel it's big enough to comfortably climb in? Maggie says this will be the measurements at 70/30: it would be about 42"W and the Passenger would be about 18"W.

Another question: Can you drop the tailgate WITHOUT opening the barn doors? I'd like to be able to do this.

70/30 is definitely a better split, gives more options for the small door in terms of mounting. I have PLENTY of room going through my big door and personally wouldn't go smaller than 18" on the small door. My large door is about 40" (I think). I think you have a good split at 42/18". Just keep in mind that with a large split, even a 70/30, that large door will block a side hatch from opening when open and latched (unless you have an 8' bed) so be strategic about which side it'll be on in relation to side hatches if you're getting those.

Yes you can open the tailgate without opening either barn door. There's no order of operation between the tailgate and the doors.

good call I better check on the measurements with the crew. I currently have both the larger barn door and a flip up hatch on the same side. my bed is 76". I'm not sure how large the flip up hatch is.

Glad to hear I can still open the tailgate without the doors. I may need to figure out how to wire up my old 1st gen tundra tailgate lock to be able to use the door fob with it. I'm selling the taco and getting this camper for my 06 tundra double cab. in the end i needed a larger truck for the family and my taco is 2wd, so I made sure get 4x4 on the Tundra. Bummed about the taco I have it up for sale. I loved that truck, but it had a few downfalls (size and 2wd) that I couldn't overcome.

Does anyone have the OVRLND installed Keder rails? Wondering about the length of the rail. My OVRLND will be going on a 6 foot Tacoma with an access cab.

No noticeable driving difference, based on my scangauge, about a 1/2 gallon loss in mileage.

ordering mine with Keder rails. seems like a great solution for an awning and it's low cost, low weight.

Did the same thing. Ordered mine w Keder on passenger and drivers side. Picking up in mid Feb. been running an ARB on my current set up but that thing is heavy. Interested to see how the Keder rails and diy awning works out. Def a lighter option.
