Hey guys. Just bought a Max fit camper top, and wondering if I need bed stiffeners for the added weight. Thanks.

You don't need them, but I would get them anyways.

If you have the money lying around then it doesn't hurt. According to the placard on the cap my old Tacoma had it on for about 13 out of the 14 years of its life with no stiffeners but it may actually be all 14yrs.
My bedsides were pretty dang straight after all that time.

If you offroad I'd buy them

Can anyone report a bed that was out of whack because there was a camper shell and no stiffeners? I’ve yet to see one report. If you have them, pass them along. No on the stiffeners.

Even if they do nothing most provide additional tie down points in the bed

It surely wouldn't hurt. I added them to my truck, and I've noticed a whole lot less "looseness" when hitting bumps in the rear end. Peace of mind. I went with total chaos.

    I totally agree.

Of course, I haven't installed my Total Chaos yet...I'll wait until the weather warms up.

Can confirm, unless you want your tailgate gaps bigger at the top than the bottom, get some stiffeners. They're cheap insurance and the added tie down points are worth it for that alone.

agreed with not needing them. if the bed was that weak, that it would split/fall apart, im sure we would hear about it.

i wanted some, but they are not cheap.....i have a camper shell and off road....no issues so far....

it is cool, and adds tie down points for sure. if you have the extra change....go for it. i rather spend it some where else.

I have a shell on my regular cab and after about a year of having it I noticed the plastic fasteners inside the bed close to the top were broken off and the holes were misaligned. Checked the gaps at the tailgate and, sure enough, they were bigger at the top than the bottom. I added bed stiffeners.
