I can tell by the bang bang shrimp you’re at Bonefish Grill. Ironically, that smoked old fashioned and my love of it led to the stocking stuffer I’m trying out tonight. The wifey was listening when I said how much I enjoyed it.

So this bottle is almost exactly one year old. I found two of them last year on sale for $89.99 each and grabbed them both, obviously. Gave this one away and kept one for my collection. Up visiting family for the holidays and my BIL cracked his open. It’s worth hunting, but I wouldn’t pay what some places are asking. I’m a huge WT fan so this Russel’s is just more of what’s good about WT bottles.

You are correct, the bang bang shrimp suffered shrinkflation unfortunately. Used to be nearly 30 shrimp, but we counted a whole 10 (imported) shrimps.
    Sigh

The SB Rye is one of my favorites. Haven't had a chance to get this one though. I bet it's amazing.

I was out shopping today. I stopped by two stores that both had a single bottle of Weller 12 yr. The first store wanted $129 with the purchase of a store pick. The second store wanted $199. I think both are overpriced, and I'm annoyed at the first shop for requiring me to buy a second bottle that I may or may not actually want. If it had been just that bottle I probably would have bought it, over priced or not.

I’m mixed on things like this…. First off I Like Weller a lot, and do sort of chase it myself. I’ve found/ gotten enough bottles now that I definitely wouldn’t pay the $200 that one shop was asking however the $129 and a store pick might be a contender if it was something I wanted to try. The last three bottles of Weller I’ve gotten were a full proof for $99 about 3 weeks ago, an Antique 107 store pick (picked up at MSRP and was given to me as a gift) and some Special Reserves I picked up this summer all at MSRP.

The reason I say I’m mixed on the situation is if it was a 12yr at MSRP, where you would happily bought it, so would everyone else and you probably wouldn’t have even had the chance.

everyone wants MSRP and availbilty, those things really don’t go together.

long story short if you haven’t ever had the 12yr and it’s something you’ve always wanted I’d be worth buying. If you just want a spare bottle or wanted it to collect I’d probably pass. Either way it’s cool that you even got to see two bottles out for sale. I bet lots of people never find any of the premium Weller lol. Me I’m only looking for a CYPB and a Single Barrel….

Oh they absolutely do. Abundant supply eliminates scarcity and drives prices down.

To clarify are you saying everyone wants very limited whiskies cheap and easily found? Because yeah, that trifecta ain't happening.

That was obviously my point. But yes, I was in this case referring to Weller or any allocation bottles.

I’m going to have to post a pic up when I get home from traveling for the holidays but off the top of my head I got the following:

    Antique 107 store pick
    Blantons store pick
    Blantons
    1792 Full Proof store pick
    1792 sweet wheat
    Eagle Rare store pick
    Widow Jane Decadence

All gifts/ swaps. Pretty good haul really. I also gave away some really great stuff.

Not to mention drank some incredible bottles too.

ohhhhhh…. And a cask strength limited Woodford

The stores that give you a lower price for an allocated bottle if you buy an additional bottle are only passing along what they had to do to get the allocated bottle in the first place. Distributors often require a store to purchase x number of some other bottle for every allocated bottle.
