I haven’t, it isn’t anything special. Only redeeming quality is the chassis is the original, fairly clean and not rusted. Does have a brand new engine in it now, guess that is another.

The other redeeming quality is that it’s paid off. And wasn’t $60,000 to start with!

Yes! Paid cash for it, same with my 3rd Gen. There really isn’t anything that is screaming to me to run out and buying a 4th Gen. Especially now with the price hikes, and can’t get the cab configuration I like. Can’t see spending that kind of coin on something that isn’t exactly what I want. With my 3G the compromises were minimal, and the price was somewhat reasonable. Not the case with the 4G. No access cab, smaller gas tank, no real gains in fuel economy…after watching the TFL drag race, the 4G wasn’t all that much faster. Not that I am into drag racing or driving fast, but seeing there really isn’t that much improvement in power for daily use, so you can merge into traffic a touch faster, big deal…my current trucks do fine.

Just not seeing the value of the added costs. Especially when I compare it to the Tundra, seems like a better buy and truck all the way around.

Two reasons I am looking, wife wants my 3rd Gen, and retirement is a few years away. May need a bigger truck to pull a camper. The smarter thing to do is to keep my 3G, do a smaller camper, and buy her own 3G. She doesn’t need the V6, currently finding the 4 Cylinder ACLBs for under $30K. That makes the most practical/financial sense to me.

Yeah but the dealer is still going to add the $2K of stickers are easy bolts ons to the higher upgrade package and then their $2K protection package. Some may also want an extended warranty. Congrats you now have a $60K TRD off-road.

Officially with all of the options I would be over on payload by 20lb without me in the truck… and that doesn’t take into account my bed mat, bed step, floor mats, tonneau cover, audio upgrade etc etc.

I push the payload envelope of 1100 lbs. with just a fiberglass topper, gear, and tongue weight of my moto trailer.

These trucks are great with a wedge style camper, personally wouldn’t do much more. Camp trailer makes more sense, get a bunch more room for your dollar too.

Kinda diggin’ the inTech Flyer Discover.

Wife likes the Airstream Base Camp, probably because of the inside shower and toilet. Me I don’t care. https://www.airstream.com/travel-trailers/rei-special-edition/

You’d probably be better off with a pop up, they do some nice models now…
The taco does fine towing 5klb it’s just the wind resistance that’s the pia.

My wife prefers pop up trailers. She actually lived in one for a few years when she was younger. I don’t like them, too much fussing. Then I found that inTech, seems like a decent compromise.

Yeah, the wind resistance would be horrible, why I have been considering a Tundra, but love my Tacoma…and seeing if I could make it work. A guy a know who seems to get by with their Gladiator, they just mill about Idaho all summer.

I was so close to buying a gladiator, more leg room in the back for the kids . Just didn't want to deal with jeep issues . I have a feeling the glad will only last another year or so , no one wants to buy them as they are way over priced

Looked hard at them too, love how they look plus can haul bikes, however all of my buddies who have Jeeps have nothing but problems, a couple of them traded in on Bronco, 4Runner and a Tundra.

That and the 5’ bed is just a bit too short for me, see how close the tailgate is to his trailer jack? Too close for comfort for me. Extended tongue would cure it, but not ideal. if they had a 6’ bed extra cab, might consider one and just trade in before the warranty was up.

Dirt bikes are typically 7’ long end to end. One of the reasons a Tundra 6.5 or even 8’ would be better. The 6.5 you can prop the tailgate at an angle, 8’ you can close it.

If you’re only towing 200 miles here or there wind resistance can be lived with. If you’re towing cross country then it gets a bit annoying.
Honestly towing a 3k lb or a 5klb TT the towing experience is pretty much the same when towing into a 20 mph headwind. Choosing a 7ft wide TT over a 8ft wide TT is a huge difference, also the shape of the nose is a big factor.

Wandering the West is basically what I do, avoid the interstate at all costs. Only jump on there if I absolutely have to, so nothing much above 65, that and not much in a hurry, fine with plunking along enjoying the view.

Don’t want to go too big either, since I tend to end up in tight spots.

I tow a little 6x12 aluminum enclosed trailer that only weighs 1500 lb. loaded and can feel the load from the wind like it weighs 5000 lbs. lol. It is the tall one though, so it makes for a pretty good sail. Got it 2 years old like new for a great price so I went with the tall height. Had I bought a new one I would have went a little shorter for less wind resistance.

Have done driving duties in my buddy’s 4Runner and a 3500 lbs camper, crosswinds kept you on your toes. Also drove another fiends F150 towing a 6X12 enclosed. Couldn’t even tell it was back there. After that day is what got me looking at full-sizes.

Only towed my open 5X8 utility/moto with the Taco, have done some near max landscape material/dump runs with it. Wouldn’t want to do any long distance trips like that though. Just the bikes, feels like nothing back there.

Used to tow our earth moving equipment around with a Chevy C70 dump, but all that was mostly in town jobs, top speed maybe 50 if you’re lucky. We also had a Mack Tri-axle, but I didn’t drive that much. Mostly the Chevy C70 or one of our F350 Dumps with a skidsteer.
