I suspect that someone may have tried to siphon my gas tank, because I discovered something at the car wash bay today while I was pressure washing duct tape residue off the truck. The fuel filler door was loose and came open, and I discovered the cap unscrewed. My CEL never came on, my truck runs fine, and I have no idea how long it was open for; I do not believe I got any pressure washer spray in the gas tank, and I sincerely believe that someone tried to steal gas from my truck, possibly while we were at @Stitchgirl90's birth mother's apartment in Coatesville. I've never driven more than a mile after forgetting to screw the cap back in, so I don't think that was the case this time.

It is entirely possible that I forgot to put it back on, but the last time prior to this discovery that I got gas was last night, and this just doesn't seem like something I would do. However, I don't feel like a gas thief would take the time to put the cap in the Gas-Hole...

Not from what I can tell, which means that if it happened at Amanda's mother's place, they likely bolted when we came out to leave...

Coatesville does have some dirt bags sections in it, watch out around there. You wouldn't get a CEL until it does the evap test which only happens after the truck sits for 6+ hours and the test has to fail twice before tripping the CEL, so you might have a pending code for EVAP that will go away once it tests good.

The person that stole my fishing equipment out of my tool box close the tool box lid.
I didn't even know they stole them until about a week later.

I came out to the truck and the corner of the tool box was "up".
It latches on both sides. One side was latch the other wasn't.
I figured maybe I didn't close the lid hard enough. I smacked the lid closed and went on.
The following weekend I went fish, popped the tool box and GONE.

Suddenly. It all made sense.
I was upset, but not "too bad".
I just hope the SOB went fishing and caught a bunch of fish, and didn't just sell the stuff.

Should I have my mechanic do an OBD scan on it next time I go in for an oil change? My truck is inspected through October 2024.

You could. But I never do.
    Why worry about pending codes?

You don't have emissions testing in your part of Tennessee, do you? If my CEL is on, it's an automatic failure; Pennsylvania requires an emissions test and safety inspection every year...

Pending codes wont set light. And they wont fail you.
Clearing codes will reset the evap monitors. which WILL fail you.
And it can take days for the monitors to complete.

So all should be good in about nine months? Honestly, I think this is further proof that emissions testing needs to be done away with...

I’m wait for testing to become a thing on small engine. Such as lawn mowers.
Hell, lawn mowers now have carbon canisters on them.
Some leaf blowers and chainsaws have Catalytic mufflers.

no guarantees, something could break between now and then. I think like any other testing it should be optional test for data and info only and the fix not mandated by law. Nobody tells you to get an MRI or a checkup at the doctor, if your body fails and you did nothing it’s on you. Any time the government gets involved for regulations you are guaranteed to lose efficiency and cost everyone more money for no good reason.

Nah, odds are the computer will not trip the CEL now and after driving a while it's going to forget this. I doubt you lost any fuel as there is a baffle in the filler neck to prevent it, I forget the actual setup off my skull but I have heard it is on our trucks.

    Don't say that out loud!!
