Does the RC62F mat up with a FJ Cruiser Transfercase?
*Asking for those that have already swapped in one in lieu of the Taco Tcase and its HORID electronic actuator....

Just to confirm. You want to know if the RC62F will mate up to the vf4b AWD transfer case?

It doesn't swap out of the box in that you need to clearance/machine the RC62 to make room for the shift rails of the VF2B t-case. It's been done before by a few folks here but I wouldn't mind a re-do on mine since it didn't turn out perfect.

Well I admit my knowledge of the numerical/digit name of the Tcase is lacking... my FJ Tcase is not the AWD version.
I did have to split my Taco Tcase and take the Input shaft out of it and put in into the used FJ Tcase I acquired from a junk yard.

Like desert Ratliff stated, it will bolt up, but you will have to shorten the t-case shift rods and make clearance in the housing of the RC62F trans. There is a thread on it somewhere here.

Thank you both for the input.

At least in my mind, and my wife would not understand, but I'm thinking about trying to put together a (1 or 2) UZ engine, to possibly a newRC62F transmission, to my FJ T-case.

I like my 6 speed manual transmission that came with my truck, but it does seem to (probably to) need service because over time going into 3rd gear I must be gentle not to shift too fast. The clutch is still original in my rig and certainly near the end of its useful life (262k miles on it so far....) which is a factor there too I know..... but if I was going to either service it, why not replace it with a better unit like the RC62F? is my thought....

I'm aware of at least one (Big Tire Garage - YouTube) that has the UZ engine swapped in, and the manual FJ T-case, but that Tacoma has the 5-speed manual transmission (that came behind the 4 cylinder engine - I believe)

I just want to build a fun daily driver that the UZ V8 would be, instead of the good ol 1GR-FE V6, and maintain my 6 speed manual and FJ T-case.

That FJ-case from the auto version will bolt straight up to the R155 and the 750F auto trans. They both have the same output splines.

Sorry for a derailment but since this seems to be where all the RA60/RC62 gurus are can anyone with one of these transmissions sitting around measure the rough circumference of the bellhousing and also the circumference of the main body of the transmission? I'm planning a new drivetrain for my 1988 pickup and the RC62F is an interesting option provided its not too much larger than a R150 series transmission. My plan was to use a R156F from a 2TR 3rd gen Tacoma backed by a VF4AM from a 1GR 4th gen 4Runner but looking at the gear ratios for the RC62F it's essentially a R150F (which the truck has currently) with an extra overdrive as the 6th gear. If it can be stuffed in the transmission tunnel of the older trucks it'd be pretty awesome to get a new 6 speed in there. I remember reading somewhere that the RA/RC series was significantly larger than the legacy R series but in modern applications they both seem to use the same version of the VF2 transfer case so at a minimum the tailhousing dimensions have to be pretty similar.

    I have a few mods
I'll have to reread this thread as this year progresses but I plan on converting my 2006 Prerunner Auto into a 4x4 6 speed. The RC from the turd gen is a lot more appealing with the double overdrive than the RA 2nd gen trans only having one overdrive and 5th being 1:1. I'll have to set a lot of money aside and getting parts gathered for this since I'll probably be swapping a 2nd gen Tundra steering rack in to help with the big tires and possibly doing SUA long travel in the rear at the same time.

Currently running 37s with 5.29s on the stock 4.0, auto does fine for most of everything but towing. I have a 1980 and 1981 Toyota pickup, one modified from the ground up for off-road and the other is a 2wd getting converted to 4wd as a stock example and my modified 80 is the one that gets towed and I really hate this auto for towing, granted I don't think the 37s help my cause...but still, I'd rather have a manual on general. Lots of great info here.

So for those with RC62F swapped 2nd Gens that went with a Core/Hurst shifter: is the 4106 stick still the preferred choice? Are you happy with the position or would you try and order another stick if you had to do it again? I'm kind of digging the offset to the drivers side both for shifting the trans and to get a little more clearance on the passenger side for the TC lever.

    I see mention of the shorter/straighter 7201.

7436 looks like it might work as well. All three are available at the moment.

    My shit is all stock.
Mine came with whichever is the default stick for the third gen. Of the examples you posted, it looks most like the 4106 to me. I like the position. My hand just naturally finds it. Short flicks of the wrist to shift with my elbow planted on the console lid are fairly easy. Reverse takes some effort tho. This shifter demands some precision to operate. You gotta be deliberate. I’ve got a fairly heavy shift knob on it. That helps a bit. It does make subtle gear noise on the freeway.

Thanks for the feedback and pics. Your description on position with the 4106 (or Hurst equivalent) sounds about perfect. I also have a Trailbreaker knob (a Ti V2) so I should end up with something really similar in terms of weight and position.

Dood! These knobs are so nice. He really ought to make another batch. I bought two. A “summer” Delrin knob and a “winter” stainless.

Would anyone happen to have a measurement of the pressure plate fingers with it uninstalled? I have an ACT clutch and they state the pressure plate can fit both 2/3 gen but with the OEM 3 gen TOB it barely touches the fingers, doesn't give me warm and fuzzies installing it

That's what I figure as well but they seem confident that's it's correct, the fella I was talking to says the bearing they provide in the kit does the same thing that's why I want to compare with another brand/oem if it does the same then so be it but if not I'll get something else, this is the second clutch in this truck in 2000Km and getting real tired of dropping the trans

I have a 2nd gen ACT pressure plate uninstalled that measures 2 5/8" across the fingers.
I have a 2nd gen Spec pressure plate uninstalled that measures 2 9/16" across the fingers.
My 2nd gen OEM release bearing measures 2 13/16" across the face of it.
    Hopefully this helps.
