I'm regularly amazed at what my little 18v 1/2" makita mid-power brushless impact will bust loose.

Also, sidebar, time to update your signature again, RIP Versys, may you rest in part-out peace pieces :rain:

Haha good call, I've updated my signature.

May the Versys live on in my signature (and as a part of many other bikes).

    minor tweaks
I recently sold a nice 240volt V-twin compressor and replaced it with a more reasonably sized (and much quieter) oil less compressor. I have air tools but rarely use them. I don't miss the big red monster (my wife's term) but it did do a decent job warming up the garage in the winter after it'd cycle a couple times.

A question for all you guys. Do any of you ride the cheap Chinese pit bikes/dirt bikes? I've been looking at some. They range from $1000 to over $2000 depending on how crazy you want to go with them. I just thought one could be good cheap fun without spending a lot of coin. I know they are Chinese and your going to have to wrench on them but that's ok, they're simple machines. Might be kinda cool to throw one in the back of the taco and go play in the dirt a little, 2 tracks etc.
    What say you guys?

Was kinda thinking about this little thumper. 150cc $1200 shipped to your door. Big wheels, 19 inch front 18 rear, electric start and kick. And I think you can plate it.

I would just say that if you are going to buy a Chinese pit bike, there are way better cheap Chinese brands out there than the xpro you posted...

ycf/gpx/apollo just to name a few

Yeah I've been looking at them all. Some of them have a better rep than others but come with added cost too. They are basicly all the same and probably come out of the same factories. Some of them are just over the top I think and gets it out of the cheap fun category.

Besides BkrChuck and myself, any other FJR riders here? I'm looking at upgrading my shock and wanted to see what you guys are using (if you've done the same).

I have had a few in various configurations, as long as you know how to wrench and give them a good once over thay are a decent machine for the price. Thats actually a neat not quite a pit bike, not quite a full size bike but with a horizonal honda style motor, I like it!

I put 10k miles on a 110cc 4 speed electric n kick start lifan motor in a chinese z50 remake with zero issues from the motor. A few ods and ends but easy fixes, and those 10k miles were NOT easily lived (11-18yr old beating the ever living crap out of it). What took the motor out was a chain coming off and bunching up in the case blowing up the trans and case (which would happen to any bike). Threw the 50cc motor back in the chassis that had been sitting in a box for 5+yrs and fired it right up. Thing lives on somewhere.

I lucked into a used Penske on eBay that's now in my 2014. Friend of mine bought the Hyperpro Street Box, rear shock and matched fork springs and he's been happy with that. Stock Gen 3 rear shock is a decent unit and fits all years of FJR for a reasonable price

I have a Gen 3 oem shock on my Gen 2, but I’d like something a little nicer. A while ago I read about some issues with Penske; the bottom clevis was failing. Hopefully it’s been sorted. I’m looking at a TFX.

Say you have a motor sitting for awhile . Do you...check that oil level is in spec, run for a short period to stir things up then drain oil, or just drain oil cold then put fresh in?

And then once it has fresh oil in it, do you run up to temp to disperse and lube everything before storage again?

This question applies to a few small generators I have been tasked to maintain that haven't been ran in over a year+, but could also apply to moto projects like @Calamity_taco just picked up.

Just from my gut feeling, if the oil is less than say 5 years old, I'd probably run and drain. Any older and I'd just drain + fill with cheap oil and then re-drain.

personally id drain it and add new oil in it. no reason to run old oil unless you are just wanting to see if it will start. dont full on run it with the old oil. buuuut im no mechanic im some idiot that tinkers lol
