Not yet. Works been too busy. White mr2 is still partially a daily since the weathers still ok. 98 taco is parked for winter (and because I still haven’t finished it’s exhaust) tundra is sitting with 4 engines in its bed waiting for me to move stuff to store things.
I am close to engine and manual swapping the other 93 mr2 though. Just waiting on the exhaust valves for its new 2.7l

Good luck man. I know you have the motivation and the skills.

Chose partners wisely, do the paperwork, and make sure everybody understands their role from the get go. I've seen several friends try to work together and it can fall apart due to the stresses.

Anyone in the northwest Indiana area have the stock exhaust from 3rd gen DCLB selling for cheap or giving away? Can trade you the stainless steel Magnaflow (catback) exhaust I have or purchase it. I live in northwest suburbs of Chicago.

2024 Core Premium. I picked it up yesterday. It's definitely a sweet ride.

    Good afternoon all,
I am Ryan, new to Indiana (12 months on the west side of Indianapolis) and new to Tacoma ownership. I bought a 2009 Prerunner out of California in December. Really wanted a V6 with the 6 speed which was tough to find but I am really enjoying it. Just clicked over 80k miles and needs a service, any mechanic recommendations?

just spend some time here and get some tools. most stuff isn't all that difficult to DIY

80k miles is just getting broke in, shouldn't need anything unless you need brakes or something.

Welcome to a great State and forum! Just about every topic/part/repair/... is here somewhere for every model.

Hopefully you got a rust free Cali truck. If so, no matter which version your Prerunner is, if you are also new to the rust belt, FLUID FILM should be on your to do list.

You said you wanted a "V6 with 6 speed". What did you end up with in the Prerunner? Like Shellshock said, the type of maintenance you'd need with 80k should be low, but will be different depending on which eng/trans you bought.

Welcome to the forum, hide your wallet... trust us. Cant echo what Wsidr1 said, fluid film the hell out of your under body at some point this year before the first salting next fall/winter. Make sure you get it done inside the frame rails real well the salt here eats Toyotas. Also any nut/bolt you take off make sure you anti-seize it going back on.

I only know of the toyota steelerships on the north/north east side for general maintenance are pretty good but that I only know for new vehicles my wife has had still under warranty. I have never taken my truck.
Bill Estes south of Carmel is always busy
Ed Martin out in Noblesville handled my wife's rav4 for its first couple years of its free maintenance.

Even if you aren't super mechanically inclined I would handle the general maintenance yourself its super easy. Oil change, grease zerks, rotate tires, fluid film refreshes, air filters can all be done with a small investment into some tools which can be used in the future.

Toyotapartsdeal.com is a great place to buy toyota brand parts decently cheap. Parts get shipped from a dealership that has the part in stock.
Toyota oil filters are cheaper than any aftermarket brand and are actually really good.

Welcome to Indiana and to Tacoma-dom! There's a shop on the far NW side (Michigan and 106th) that my buddy takes his 25yr old Tunny to. He's had some pretty major work done and absolutely gusshes about these guys. He's a cheap ass, and a wrench (moto's mostly) so I consider that a solid recommendation. I haven't used them myself. Generally strongly distrust mechanics/dealerships.

    https://maps.app.goo.gl/U8Ut2oPnZzBToCBQ6

I will say I've dealt with Tom Woods (Dealership) in Whitestown (frame warranty recall/parts) and they seem pretty straight forward. Never bought from them or used them for repair.

Solid advice here, although I personally prefer Wool Wax. Same idea, and same results. I find wool wax a bit stiffer, sets up a little better for me. Every September. I'm on the far NW side as well. So long as your not tearing into a motor, I'm happy to try to help with all the standard stuff. I'm on my 2nd 2nd gen, which is the same truck you've got, so I've covered most of the basics. Always a 4.0 tho. Worth mentioning.

I can't believe it took me 9 years to get to this thread. Howdy.

As I said above, Im in NW Indy.

Saw this truck out and about recently and was completely impressed. Thinking he may be on this thread, or one of you 3rd gen guys might know him? He clearly takes a lot of pride in his rig and has done a great job. Just the wheels should tell the story. IYKYK

Just found this thread. Born and raised Hoosier. Left for a little while (16 years) because Uncle Sam called (USMC). I do have question about the rust belt, should I spray down the underside with a rust stop spray first and then Fluid Film? It has probably been mentioned before but my googlefu on this forum sucks.

this thread is soooooooooper quiet. Maybe we can kick it up a bit.

I use Wool Wax, which is very similar to fluid film, and used in the same manner. No need to pre treat. Blast the trucks underside down with water to knock off loose stuff, let it air dry, and go to town.

The secret in the lanolin treatments is that they sweat water. Kind of like quick dry clothing on a person, which draws sweat away from your skin to the outside of the shirt, where it can evaporate. The lanolin (WW/FF) does the same, drawing water away, and preventing penetration (from the outside in) , therebye preventing rust.

And thanks for your service. Glad you got back home in one piece.
