I’ll hear your point and raise you the several dozen lack of calls of holding against parsons. It’s been a thing that’s now nearly comical.

It is announced. I haven't been to an NFL game in about 10-12 years but remember it always being done, though that could have changed.

Imagine being the Cincinnati Bengals and having to battle against the league, and the referees, who called this play on side. I mean the guys like 1 foot passed the ball.

I'll give you that. And to be fair, those can likely be called on every play so they tend to only call the egregious ones. Again, Detroit had many opportunities to change the game, but in the end we're talking about poor officiating ultimately deciding the outcome on a single play. But, the human element will always be present, even if that means missed calls on things that should have never been missed.

And every offensive lineman not the center is too far back. Not one has his helmet breaking the belt line of the center.

That they can beat a mid Vikings team that is using a 4th string QB while fighting for a playoff spot? They have to play a bad Bears team at home next week as well.

Yeah, but where was everyone when the ball was actually snapped, on both sides of the ball?

3 things in life are inevitable; death, taxes, and the losing teams fan blaming the refs. Many of you will disagree, but I don’t think the league and their refs intentionally favor one team over another or try to change outcomes (I don’t buy into the ‘scripted’ conspiracy theories). The refs simply are bad. This season the officiating has been worse than average which wasn’t good to begin with. NFL gross revenue is closing in on $20 billion. They need to put more money into this. Maybe make them full time and pay for performance. Review tapes and pay bonuses for good performances, and don’t be afraid to fire their asses. Put more cameras and technology to work, instantly call something from the booth, as long as it’s quick (I don’t want to add more long delays).

100% need full time refs (they can even be contracted full time and managed by a third party to satisfy the tin foil hat conspiracy folks). Other main issue is that with new rules comes new interpretation of rules.. and with ref groups not always interpreting the same way, you get much more human error and discrepancies between calls/non-calls

I also think there needs to be an additional challenge added for the coaches where you can challenge a penalty or lack thereof

I've heard so many say the Patriots were scripted to win it in 2001 after 9/11 and then the Brady suspension year that I'm sick of it. Totally agree re the conspiracy theory.

I think it's got to be invested in more absolutely. As someone else said too maybe allow challenging a penalty x times per game IF it's called only?

Nah, I think no calls should be challengeable as well. Granted I think you get one per half or something like that so you'd better be certain challenging it

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. If it’s true that teams & players get warnings but at this stage of the game BOTH are illegally set and refs are rebuked for not letting them play I can certainly understand not throwing a flag when the alternative is to throw every flag everywhere all of the time.

Agreed. I don't think Detroit was intentionally screwed. I think the refs just flat out weren't paying attention and got it wrong and it cost a team in the end (ignoring all the other decisions of course). We can talk about how they didn't decide to kick the extra point two more times, but also they shouldn't have had to. Then again, they should have gotten a safety instead of letting up a 93 yard TD. They also should have gotten a FG instead of going for it on 4th down. Shoulda, coulda, woulda, it's done now.

My point was that the screen shot was from well before the snap. You can see the QB isn’t ready for the ball yet and one of the linemen isn’t set yet. Offsides and illegal formation penalties don’t exist until after the snap. So any of these players maybe have adjusted their positioning by the time the ball was snapped.
