Question for the tax experts. I wanted to sell stock for a loss last week but was too busy, if I sell on 1/2/24 are those losses going to go towards the 2024 tax season or will it still be considered 2023 since I haven’t filed the taxes yet?

 

Tax year is 1/1 through 12/31. So they'll go on 2024.

 

I figured, going to be a long year waiting to realize those losses

Incresed my contribution amt over the last few years to "Buy the Dip"
This was probably -3x this during that halloween bottom....


On the charts Jan to May ran up to July and then crashed to that october bottom and then now climbing out...

All the investments from Nov 2020 through Sep of 2022 were right back at the Aug of 2020 peak...that's a lot of buys on the down slope
