Fellas, searched a bit through the forum but cant seem to find an exact answer. Most threads about tires seem to be on on A/Ts and big lifts. Figured I'd start by posting here. Hope this hasnt been asked before.

I am looking for tires for some 17x7 5th gen 4runner wheels to put on my 1st gen taco. I would prefer to have a diameter between 29 and 31in and have something that is quiet, comfortable, has good wet traction, good tread wear, good mpgs for a truck and can optionally handle snow. It must be good on the highway and general commuting-type traffic. I would also like for it not to rub the control arm.

Yes I know the 15x10 ar172s look better, but these 30x9.5 wildpeaks at 42k miles just aint it anymore for all the highway driving I been forced to do. And yes im keeping them for more wildpeaks when I finally save money and get a proper commuter car.

    What are yalls reccomendations/experiences?

Michelin Defender LTX. It's not the tire size that rubs the UCA, its the wheel offset but you should know that.

On my second set, fabulous tire. Not the cheapest out there but do everything well.

For once, Super Swampers are not the answer. Michelin Defender is.

Those ar172s are not 15x10 as you mentioned. You mean 15x8 o_O? Your 9.5 wide tires don't look stretched on that 10 wide rim.

Run 3" wheel spacers per side for clearance and get your self a set of super dumper. BEST ALL AROUND TIRES

Wait... all these years and I'm wrong. I thought it was the tire size that rub and not the offset. Damn it.

Ur probably right. Funny thing is I chose those wheels and tires and prayed they fit but can't remember the specs. They arent listed on my reciept either. All I know is I remember the tech saying they would have to be stretched to fit. Feels silly looking back at it, haha

Cooper Discoverer SRX have been very good to me. 70,000 mile tire, and not as stupid expensive as Michelin.

I get 100K miles per set of Michelin Defender LTX. They're also quiet and smooth on the road. Never had a flat. I'm on my 3rd set.

    back to bone stock.
Michelins go forever. my last set I replaced at 8 years. I was getting nervous, but there was plenty of tread left. plenty. I had a long road trip and I wanted fresh ones.

just put a new set on my 2006 tacoma. Michelins LTX from Costco. they are so quiet.

As mentioned, they don't like to be 10 wide. Easiest way to find out is to reduce the wheel and look at the back side, it'll be stamped (size and offset).
