The owners of this stock shovel needed to break it down and move it. Too expensive, so it dug its own grave and they buried it.IMG_0117.jpg

Well hope 2024 will be an OK years. Happy New Years all!

Was going to spray down the truck today and pull it in the garage for a nice rinseless wash, but it looks like we got a potential winter storm Saturday. I like to try and clean my vehicle before going into the dealer, but this time it ain't happening... :annoyed:

2012 Green Tacoma TRD AC stock
Happy New Year, Stockers. I just discovered this thread while watching bowl games and doing some 2024 planning for investment in my 2012 Taco. I wonder if I could get your experienced thoughts on my questions?

    Background:
    • I bought the truck with 85K on it. It will roll over 200K soon. I use it as a daily driver and to access backcountry trailheads in Colorado for fishing, backpacking and xc skiing (up to 2+ 4wd trails only). I do some camping in the shell. I occasionally tow my brother's light boat.
    • It is stock. I've recently had my mechanic install new Bilstein shocks all around and level it with a 2.5 front lift, as I recall. I have Goodyear Wrangler UltraTerrain ATs on it that I love.
    • I do no mechanical work on it myself. I have a good mechanic who does the regular maintenance, and is next door to a 4WD specialist we go to when needed. I have resources to pay professionals, but want to be conservative and effective in my investment in this vehicle. It has been in a few accidents, and has been well repaired from them, save some body scratches and light denting from someone who side-swiped me last year on a freeway; I have yet to repair that. More below.
    Goals:
    • I want to bring it along for as long as I can, keeping it stock as much as possible, optimizing it for my use.
    • I may add a camper like the Go Fast Camper this year to do more and longer trips, camping in three seasons.

    My questions:
    • What do I need to be thinking about to preserve the vehicle for the long term and optimize performance, other than standard maintenance as monitored by my mechanic? Specifically:
      • How should I address the minor body damage, which includes light scratching throughout (from brush, rocks, etc.) and a couple of chips that are starting to show rust? I have a family member who has offered to help if we want to do it ourselves, which I would be open to if it's wise to try it. He's done only a bit of work on other vehicles, but has tools and is very capable. I'd trust us to do a good job if it's worth it. Body work seems very expensive, and I'm not so concerned about aesthetics so much as preservation. Though I really love the green color!
      • Anything I need to be thinking about if I'm going to add a heavier camper shell? Do you think I can sell the old (green) shell? Maybe on the forum?
    • What other questions should I be asking?

Thanks so much for ANY advice you have, and no rush. It's only Day 1 and lots of bowls left....

    Cheers!

Other than headlights and grille she's fairly standard. My 3rd Tacoma and by far the cleanest '14 I've ever seen.

    Welcome
    Very well written intro..

You will get a lot of help (and a lot of shit once the group gets to know you) so be prepared..
A big variety of experience in here so tapping into that will be easy.

    On Edit.
It would be good for you put your general location in your profile.

Thanks for the welcome and head's up, OP. I read your intro from 2019 and was inspired. I'm going to get shit for this already: I can't see how to add my location in my profile... (I'm in Colorado)
