So I decided to start filling up my new freezer.
About 21 pounds of assorted stuff.
Took 24 hours for the compressor to kick off. LOL

Welcome to our little slice of TW.

Keeping your vehicle alive (especially in salt road country as you're aware) is minimizing rust. So keeping your frame clean inside and out, adding fluid film or some protectant of whatever flavor you prefer. Especially with wheeling it on trails and off-road, getting the sand and mud out of the inside of the frame with a pressure washer or some other popular apparatus will be beneficial. Keeping up to date on your fluids, at 200k doing your diff fluids at least once by now I'd guess.

Paint scratches- a touch up pen if you're not super picky about the perfection of the overall look. You're using it on trails so it's not a show truck obviously. The chips that have already started rusting, you could tackle a couple of different ways. A dab of Rust converter followed by some touch up paint, some sanding to remove the rust and touch up paint, closing your eyes and pretending it isn't there, or pulling out the wallet to have somebody else worry about it.

Bummer about the side swipe, your rig looks better than @Sig45's "green bean" after the moose incident at least! Welcome to the thread and don't be afraid to roast and be roasted sometimes.

Thanks, BMan. Great point about the frame. I know -- and do -- nothing more than pay the extra few bucks occasionally for the under-spray at the automatic, drive through car wash. Can you tell me more about how best to care for the frame?

I've been running synthetic oil. Is it worth the extra cost?

@Sig45 I was just thinking about this "possibility" the other day as 2 large cows wandered through our parking lot in Frisco, CO. And I'll bet the brute didn't even stop to check on you or exchange information.

    First off, Welcome!

Even without initial protection, you're doing better than most by taking the time to wash things. Since your truck has been around the block, Fluid Film or Woolwax would be a good choice. Some corn fed folks use a home brew of bar chain oil, a couple toilet wax rings, and a little kerosene (as a binder) heated up. However, that is an extremely messy and the EPA would be knocking at your door. I was lucky to buy my current truck that hadn't seen winter, so I used a Cosmoline product. Same with my other 3rd gen. This was after 2 salty winters...

As far as synthetic oil, I personally think it's worth it, but with regular oil changes "conventional" is just fine. Truth be told even the conventional is made up part synthetic now adays. Intervals will be up to you. I like 5K. Gear oils same thing. Keep fresh fluid in them and they'll be happy.

I was fortunate (and lucky) enough to have the wherewithal to avoid a head on by accelerating and moving left (she was quartering from the right) into the other lane (remote area so no oncoming traffic). The bitch just kept on running like nothing happened. She was probably sore though. I had a cap with a canoe on it (returning from some fly-fishing) and her head caught the ends of the rack bars and knocked them off the mounts. Fortunately, the canoe didn't move much. Everything was strapped down nicely. The whole experience unfolded in seemingly slow motion.
