Kids today think food comes from Costco, we wouldn’t have what we have if we didn’t have the parents that went through WW2

The country was united during WW2,the civilians were involved in helping the cause. The War Wives, gas rationing, recycling of tin cans. Don’t know much about the Korean War, but Vietnam was fought mostly by people who couldn’t dodge the draft. Grew up in Detroit,a lower middle class neighborhood. Seen too many olive drab Dodge Fury’s go by the house delivering the folded American flag.

They even have them in Ohio once in a while. I think they said it was centered up by Toledo, late 70's. Spooky because I was lying on a concrete floor under my 442. Had broken the creeper earlier and was lying right solid on the concrete - so I felt the thump pretty clearly. Car was solid on jack stands and didn't wiggle. But it got my attention.......
Its the reason I usually have a big wooden block with me under the truck - just for luck (its thicker than I am).

Me as well; I remember lots of those olive drab Plymouth Furys and Dodge Polaras on Woodward.

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/Richter Scalers. People tell me there was a quake when I was in Cali in 2000 but I didn't feel it. I experienced one here in PA, sitting in a movie theatre with another couple; the woman was from Cali, and she jumped up and ran out of the building. Everyone else just sat there like dummies! It was caused by a quarry fracturing and releasing its water. So, tiny as temblors go. I also felt one in an office in southern NJ just a few years ago; I was sitting on a wheeled office chair, which made the whole thing feel VERY strange. The floor wiggled back and forth, but the chair just stayed in the same place. That one had an epicenter in VA somewhere.

As for boomers being the source of all ills, I think Billy Joel said it best:

    we didn't start the fire
    it was always burnin'
    since the world was turnin'

The most we can do is to be good to ourselves and to one another. Laying blame is a waste of time and energy IMESHO.

As for 2024 starting off in any special way: our Wordle luck is just as bad as it was in 2023!

Born and raised in Calif and living there for well over 50 years before moving to Tennessee . I've been thru numerous large earthquakes and after awhile you get used to them especially under 3.0 magnitude earthquakes

The three most significant earthquakes that scared the **** out of me where ....

June 1992 Landers / Big bear earthquakes 7.3 magnitude followed minutes later by a 6.1 earthquake

October 1999 Hector mine / Barstow earthquake 7.1 magnitude

    July 4th / July 5th 2019 Ridgecrest earthquakes July 4th 6.8 and on July 5th 7.1 magnitude

The Landers earthquake I was maybe just a couple miles away from the epicenter sleeping in a tent in Johnson Valley Hammers OHV area when the earthquake hit just before sunrise . The ground was shaking so violently It was hard to stand up . This earthquake was so strong it was causing some structural damage to buildings 90 miles away

The Hector mine earthquake hit about 0300hrs and I was living 100 miles away and it shook my house really hard

The Ridgecrest fourth of July earthquakes in 2019 I was living near Barstow Calif maybe 60 miles away from the epicenter . When the first quake hit on July 4th the ground felt like I was standing on a liquid surface . I had to hold onto a close by door frame to hold my balance or I would fall from the violent shaking . This violent shaking went for 30 seconds

The larger earthquake the following day on July 5th was even much stronger and I could not stand up as the ground shook violently . This shaking lasted over a minute

Yeah... mainly too many kids... and somehow we got sold on the idea that negotiating with kids was better than corporal punishment.

Any kids give you **it, just give them the list. Our generation was the one that started Earth Day, saved the California Condor, put scrubbers on smoke stacks, began cleaning up waterways, Nixon signed the Endangered Species Act into existence, put emissions equipment on cars, and we began volunteering to clean up the sides of the roads. Our parents started dealing with racial equity but it was the Boomer generation that was just becoming adult when the changes became realized and put into practice. We were the ones that protested the Vietnam War and pressured our government to end it and stop the uselessness of an unwinnable war. And to top it all off, our generation were the ones that developed the best music ever created, and that has never been challenged.

I agree with you but you really nailed it regarding the music. 60’s and early 70’s best music ever. I have an iPod with thousands of songs and 90+ % is 50’s, 60’s and 70’s rock and roll. (I also like Country which is the other 10%). But 60’s R&R nothing else like it, best ever. Long live rock and roll.

Before our generation came along we were able to catch a river on fire, that hasn’t been in the news lately.
