Those are the moments to cherish… thankfully she still has those memories to share and pass along with you. My wife’s grandmother had dementia for a few years… but she never lost her wit. Like you said, short term was not there but the things you need to hear most and learn were still there… sometimes it just takes a picture or place or whatever to trigger that memory. Best wishes to you all this new year!

The new new new closing date on the house is 15 Jan. Fingers-crossed.

 

I was just gonna tag you and ask you how things were going

 

I slept through the earthquake. Did anyone feel it?

 

Short version is: Will hold $ in escrow for drain-field replacement + frequent pumping schedule until it can be re-done; I think I've satisfied the VA (ridiculous) inspector "issues", so we can move towards closing.

I was out working on the house over the weekend and took a little vid showing the barn area and whatnot. Towards the end, there's a small red-cladded building - considering an airbnb in there eventually. I have more work cut out for me; there's a ton of tornado damage to the trees on the west side of the property; if I paid for clean up it might be 15k; instead I'll buy a front loader and figure out how many burn-pile-days I'll need. Several black walnut if any wood workers need any - lots of other tree types too.

For the drain field issue, just reduce the amount of water you use. Only 1 load of laundry a day and space larger water consumption's an hour or so apart. If you get in a bind you can open the cleanout a little bit to let the water pressure out and keep the solids and paper in. Don't know what companies charge in Adam's County, but the guy I use charges $220 for a 1,000 gallon tank. Had mine done in October.

 

I'm in York county - our realtor says about $300-320 per pump-out, in part because the truck cannot get within probably 150 feet of the system, thanks to the corn-crib height restrictions.

 

Ouch, that stinks (pun intended). I'm spoiled. I have the guy back right up to the tank

 

I am going to work a drive-around for the corn crib; because i'm a little worried about an ambulance making it to the house - and a fire truck for sure.

 

Ohhhhh black walnut! I haven't had the opportunity to do as much wood working as I'd like, but Black Walnut sounds nice. I also have a Stihl with a 20" bar, so I'm happy to help out over the spring/summer
