I have a 2003 Tacoma with the 2.7 that is throwing a P0172 (also of note, it has a bad O2 sensor code) and there is a strong smell of gas from the engine bay and into the cab. No misfire, a pretty smooth idle, still getting 17.5-18.5 MPG.

I cleaned the MAF and when I did it also looked like the previous owner might have replaced it completely. I'm wondering if it isn't something with the injectors? If so, how would I go about checking that? Also just looking for other possible simple things to check that I'm sure I'm missing.

I'll note, I am not a mechanic but have VERY basic skills and tools. This truck is not my primary vehicle, and outside of getting it for normal Tacoma things, I also wanted to have something to learn to work on. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Is the sensor code for the front O2? If it is then I would start with replacing that O2 sensor with an OEM/Denso one. Could solve the too rich code as well

So i figured out for sure its a fuel injector....there's an obvious leak. Should I just look to replace the o-rings or the whole injectors?

You can send them off to be cleaned and serviced, that's what I would do. If you can afford to have the truck down for that length of time. If you have a local place that would be fastest, or someplace like Motorwest

If you get new injectors, just make sure to get them from a legit trusted source. Same with sensors, places like eBay and Amazon are rife with counterfeits. And in the case of fuel injectors, that can be a headache at best or dangerous at worst.

If it claims to be OEM and the price is too good to be true, it probably is
