It could see it going the way of the Titan if sales don’t pick up.

Not sure if you guys understand what the word record means. The last few years are the lowest on the list. Plus there are tons of Tundras at dealerships with prices dropping.

2023 is in the top half of the trailing decade’s sales numbers. Discounts are throughout the full size segment, not a tundra specific phenomenon.

The fit and finish from what I have seen is quite awful on the new Tundra. I looked at a new one on the lot and within seconds found that the rear bumper corner would flap around at the touch of a finger. I'd post the video clip on here but don't want to upload it to YouTube.

Hopefully the Mexicans build the Tacoma to a higher level of quality than the Texans can build a Tundra.

Huh? The last five years are the lowest on the list.

The two I test drove, same thing. I was like this is a Toyota and its how much for a TRD Sport ($62k).

Not 2023. I wonder if anything happened in 2020-2022 that changed sales numbers

edit: you’re right, by 100 trucks. That’s just like the titan

Go over to the Tundra forum they have a thread for engine failures, they mention a confirmed 2023 build date that is one one of the members spreadsheets he has been keeping, the same member was giving too much info and got a cease and desist from Toyota. I'm sure they have gone at all kinds of different mileage but there seems to be consensus that if you make it to 50K you got a good one.

3rd gen guys are having failures many years into production, it is an unfortunate risk of owning any vehicle no matter the brand.

Not sure what data we could see though to even compare early failure rates in 3rd gen Tacomas vs the new Tundra

A cease and desist for talking about a broken truck? WTF? Was he a former Toyota employee or something?

There have been approx 1.2 million Tacomas sold with that engine, wonder how many failures they have seen. Considering social media and forums you would think you would see a post about a failed engine every day with that many engines out there.

Contrast that to the Tundra where you CAN actually find a post about a failure pretty much every day with a little over 200K of them sold. It's either fewer Tacomas with failures than we think, more Tundras, or Tundra owners are bigger whiners....Its a toss up...lol

I think he was sharing information from a toyota employee and whatever he was sharing hit a little too close to home for Toyota. Who knows, I'm just guessing here.

The only reason I know any of this is that I was a customer for a Tundra and monitored the 3rd gen Tundra forum pretty regularly prior to it coming out, the looks were so....uh...polarizing...that I paused before ordering one. By the time I decided I might be able to stomach the looks for the sake of reliability and utility...trucks were failing and complaints were popping up about the mentioned build quality etc.. So I put my wallet away and forgot about it.

The ones I test drove I liked, didn’t not over it with a fine tooth comb. Have read about the poor fit and finish. While I like the truck, it does give me pause, especially how much these things cost. Should be perfect. Don’t think it is going to have the legendary reliability of the old ones if it is having teething issues out of the gate.

After watching the documentary on Fuyao glass company, do not have faith with the American factory worker, quite beat down and low morale. Which I get, have been working for a very long time, burnt out myself.

If you are talking about the 2023

I personally would give it at least a year with no bearing failures before I called the issue completely eliminated. You not only have to take the trucks built in 2023 you have to wait and give them time to reach enough mileage to fail. I think by mid-late 2024 you might be able to give an assessment that Toyota fixed the issue (whatever it is, since they are being quiet about it)
