Hey Taco world! I've got some used 4Runner wheels/tires to upgrade my '14 AC 4x4 6' bed.

Big change in tire size from 245/75/16 to 305/65/17. Height increases from 30.5" to 32.6", width from 9.65" to 12". I'm not sure about the wheel offset but I think new wheels are set around +15mm based on what I've researched on 2014-18 4Runner TRD wheels.

I'm planning on getting Bilstein 6112 in the front and 5160 in the back, 2.5" lift in front and 1" in the back.

I'm worried about rubbing in the front when I turn. I don't do a ton of specific offroading but certainly plenty of driving on logging roads getting to trailheads in Colorado, and snow driving. Should my planned setup be OK? Does anyone have recommendations on things I should be careful on?

Plan on installing myself then taking in to get alignment done professionally.

Attached pic from FB marketplace on the old '12 Taco where I purchased them. He said no rubbing but not willing to take the guy who's trying to sell them's word for it.

    Thanks guys!

Setup should be okay but you may want to test mount the wheel/tire combo with stock upper control arms to see if the tire rubs. If it rubs now it will rub with a lift and you may want upgraded UCAs anyways with a 2.5" lift to help with alignment. I highly suggest JBA UCAs but SPC gets a good rap around the forum as well. These will help tremendously with UCA clearance as well as alignment and wheel/tire placement
305/65 is approximately a 32.6" tire new and depending on how they mount on a stock 4runner wheel you may want to treat them as 33's. I only say this because some 33s some times rub on the cab mount depending on the rest of the setup. If you haven't removed some of the plastic on the front bumper it may rub there, as well as mud flaps but these are simple to remove.

Best way to check ahead of lift is to remove the coilover and sway bar then mount the new wheels/tires on the hub then use a jack to stuff it up in the wheel well then turn the wheel in all directions and see if it contacts. that will tell you where it will rub at max flex. Keep in mind that it wont hit the top of the wheel well with the coilover installed but you will get a good feel of where it might rub on the front and back of the tire. (this is also a good way to check if you need cab mount chop)

Has anyone rebuilt their Bilsteins and at what mileage ? I remember reading somewhere that they claimed to not have to be rebuilt. But ive been running my 6112/5160 for about 45,000 miles now and yet the ride quality still is decent I feel it has been getting slightly worse.

IMO I’ve been on my set up for that long as well. No changes for me. For me when these go I’ll buy a whole new set.

yeah, I want to hold out as long as possible. I know I eventually want to upgrade to ADS w/ clickers . just noticing the rear end has become more "jarring" on the bump stops lately. im about to refresh the leaf packs soon just waiting on parts atm.

Thought I would share what I just had done since this and other similar threads have been helpful to me. Upgraded my wheels to the 17" TRD and that started the snowball lol. 6112 (clip settings 7+9) 5160 in rear with Icon RXT stage 2. Haven't measured the resulting lift yet. I didn't want more than 1.5". Pretty happy with the end result.

Just realized there was a dedicated 6112 thread, I have read through about 10 pages so far but this is going to take a while.

Thought I would just ask as it may be quicker.

I have about 160 pounds added up front (bumper, winch, skid) also have sliders.

I currently have 5100s with dobinson 352 springs. Also have a1/2 spacer on driver side and 1/4 spacer on passenger to bring it back to 2” after the springs settled.

I’d like to get right at 2” with the 6112, so im guessing I would go with the 650 spring but should I go to the top setting of 11/9? I’ve also thought about trying the 600 springs on 11/9 with a 1/4 spacer on each top hat for an extra 1/2 inch.

Anyone with added weight please chime in, I would appreciate the insight.

Plan on ordering when after the holidays so I’m trying to get everything in order.

This looks awesome. love that you kept a little bit of rake. What size tires are those? 265/70 r17? been really considering the 6112 5160 set up. No upper control arms? alignment ok? hoping to not have to do UCAs yet and ride the stock ones out for a while since they only have <20k miles on them. stock uca on my previous 2nd gen lasted 180k haha

Anyone know a good clip setting for the old ~5 adjustment 6112, after swapping to HD springs?

(I’m guessing also offset for Taco Lean)

    2nd gen 4x4 DCSB

I’ve been told that too much lift is bad and keep things a max of 2” or less, and that 6112 in particular also don’t like being set to max height

Pretty much have 0 camber after bumper, and had 0 camber before
Hoping to keep it that way

I’ll look to see if I can find the old previous chart and see what settings are available under 2”

Am guessing probably close to 2” to match Icon RXT in back bought used at Op3. Bed was laden but not anymore for now.

What kind of weight do you have up front? I may have missed it.

still only found the new more clip 6112 chart. Makes sense sites updated it. Gonna keep looking or email Bilstein.

direct front weight is an ARB bumper 05-11
“Indirect” other weight nearby have sliders, skids, etc

does anyone know what the easiest way to swap in HD springs and adjust clip height?

I have a cup style compressor just in case. Or shops nearby with Branick

I wonder if it’s possible to compress the spring while it’s still on the truck (using tool) and adjust clips

I’ve also heard a “way without tools” (not sure if it’s actually easier) is to simply floor jack underneath up the LCA to compress it, then loosen the top. Then slowly lower the jack until everything comes apart, to take the spring out

did the original install myself before adding front bumper and from my experience, if you have to remove the lower large shock eye bolt it’s a PITA. There tends to be tension on it and require a pry bar which basically mangles the threads on that bolt. I wonder if that can be avoided and if anyone knows an easier way.

    thank you!

Thanks! Yep that’s the idea. I honestly don’t know if the LCA nuts have to be loosened or if there’s too much tension on the bushings with them tight.

hopefully the alignment cam tabs didn’t move

Thanks! Yes these are 265/70 r17. The Goodyear Ultraterrain that Discount Tires sell. Stock UCA - I did not want to have to change them. No rubbing issues as far as I can tell.
