‘23 DCSB MT with 5k miles…stock no lift no serious mods with 800 lbs onboard including 3 adults and gear. Currently in the middle of the state on I-70 heading west across Kansas to Colorado. Going 80 mph 2600 rpm in 6th gear on this 89 octane tank mostly flat with 10-15 mph wind from the SE. Getting 16.1 mpg halfway through this tank. Not impressed.

Meh, not buying; fuel octane isn't going to make the engine run any smoother than it already does, and it isn't going to impact shifting at all.

Well it did. I’m just mentioning what I’ve done and what’s different. I’m thinking that my timing is more advanced and engine would run rough at low rpm and if you put a little bit more throttle it would surf because the combination of knock and load would make it down shift. It’s now not doing this since adding 9 gallons of 93 top tier. I’m not here to troll. I could care less. Thought I’d help others having this issue. I did 22 years military and 8 years as a math professor I’m also a cert TIG welder amongst other things. I’m being genuine.

that other picture was from last year. This is from today. Not too-too bad, even with snow tires on, usually it nose dives to 17, haven’t had much snow this year so haven’t had it 4WD hardly at all.

Yeah that is normally why I drive, mostly flat ground, drive like there is egg under the gas pedal…that tank average won’t be at 26 mpg by the time you burn through it.

I am an old school motorhead. In some engines higher octane ran better and increased mileage. Some it made no difference. The increase was usually based on higher performance engines. That said, I am going to try a higher octane in my 23 Taco OR. It would make no difference in my wife's Ford Escape that is flex fuel capable.

Cool. Just trying to be helpful and show my findings. MPG’s is just the result of my engine running smoother/not laboring/ and now not surfing. Let me know.

Was it worth the price difference? +20% fuel economy for +20% $$?

    It’s 3.09 for 87 and 3.39 for 93
5% if I go 1/2 and 1/2 so yes. and no Surfing so it hold gear and no hesitation/knocking

I think the owners manual say 87 octane, or higher. I think Toyotas research vehicle ran 91 octane for all their testing and stats. I've always ran 87 and don't have any knocking or gear hunting, but I have the MT.:D

OP "could care less"...Clearly meant to say "couldn't" but clearly could care less since he is adamant that he is just trying to spread info as though he was the discoverer and repeating the same few lines. If he truly didn't care, why the repeated pleas of listen to me.

    Troll or huckster antics

That's 70 to 75 percent of the people who have 33+ tires. That may not be true for a tune however.

Again, if you did even the smallest bit of research on the forums you would have also found that a tune (OTT in my case) takes care of gear hunting, getting smoother shifting and absolutely amazing acceleration without the need for upgrading or even changing your octane.

I think copping a bit of an attitude with TW people for giving you crap about the delivery of all this isn't going to get you anywhere.
Constantly reminding us about your age, calling people punks (ok that one was funny for the responses alone), how we just throw big tires on without a care in the world, reminding us many times about your vast "experience" with engines and coming off a bit holier-than-thou doesn't help your case here either.
Just an observation, take it however you wish.
