I bet when the engineers decided to reduce the size in the fuel tank they didn't predict all the crying here to occur. They must not know their market well.

Kind of pisses me off that they did that. Toyota has a overlanding rig and they make the tank smaller. Clowns I tell ya

The mfr does testing to the EPA drive cycle and submits the results to the EPA for certification. Fuel economy testing is done on dynos, with a bunch of fudge factors applied to account for different driveline configs and aerodynamic drag (using data from coast-down tests). There's no doubt a lot of negotiation between each automaker and the EPA on the analysis fudge factors and similarly claims. That's probably causing the delays.

Others have the fancy rotopax displayed as trophies outside their trucks along with shovels, hi lift jacks, maxtrax, tampons, Estee Lauder skin care products, perfume displays, etc.

I don't think we will make much money with your idea. Most will probably want to display the trophies. But nice brainstorming.

Seems like a pretty dumb decision especially in this current world where EV range is constantly discussed. To have a gas truck with possibly less range than an EV truck is idiotic.

The tampons are useful to soak up your spilled gasoline.

A $60k+ comprehensive overland package titled “Trailhunter” combined with a 18gal fuel tank is like offering an all-you-can-eat buffet but only if you use the 6” bread plate.

But the Tacoma never had to share its entire platform with SUV’s before, so some concessions along the way.

Speaking of fuel tanks, how many gallons does the 21.1 gal. tank realistically hold?

I know that after the gas pump shuts off on back-pressure, I can cram an additional 2.5 gallons in if I'm patient.

I think the new Land Cruiser shares the same platform and if memory serves me said it had a 24 gallon tank.

So maybe the TH will have a bigger tank?

18 when the gas light comes on, keeps you from running the tank dry and frying the fuel pump, not to mention it is a pain in the ass to prime if you do.

So on the 4G you’re looking at 15 useable gallons. Have an 18 on my 1st Gen and it sucks, range is 245-265 depending how loaded I have it. Was absolutely thrilled that my 3rd Gen adds 100+ miles to that. Currently averaging 379.8 miles between fuel ups.

When guys start tossing 35s on (and they will)…going to be a ton of bitching when the mpgs take a nose dive coupled with the smaller tank. For a vehicle that is heavily marketed to overlanders, range is going to blow for off pavement travel.
