The 200 series LC was 24gal. The all new 300 series LX600 is only 21gal. Guessing for now 18 will be all we get on any Tacoma.

In theory at least, TH’s standard hybrid might squeeze out a bit more range, but then again a loaded TH hauling nickel batteries & riding on A/T’s wont exactly tread lightly on mpg.

Ironically, best choice for true overlanders is a stripped TRDOR, leaving $15-20k of cash for individual mods.

Rangers have 18gal tank except Raptor which gets 20gal.

    2023 Tacoma 20mpg * 21gal = 420 miles
    2024 Tacoma 23mpg * 18gal = 414 miles
    2024 Ranger 22mpg * 18gal = 396 miles

    2024 Raptor 17mpg * 20gal = 340 miles
    2024 Tacoma Max 25mpg * 18gal = 450 miles

    The Aussies have it figured out. 140L = 37gal, $900AU = $600US.

Good luck getting more than 15 gallons into the new Tacoma tank! I've never ran my truck to near empty, but never get more than 18 gallons.

    2023 Tacoma 20mpg * (21.1-3)18.1gal = 362 miles
    2024 Tacoma 23mpg * (18.2-3)15.2gal = 350 miles

While 12mi less range is certainly a move in the wrong direction, it's not the end of the world.

That is good and all, but hardly anyone gets peak mpgs. Think most Tacoma owners on here are in the 16-17 mpg range.

Plus your figures are running the tank dry, should deduct 3 gallons from capacity for usable range.

Your numbers seem off. 20 is city for the 3rd Gen, and 23 is HWY for the 4th.

The average user isn't going to get near 23mpg in the 4th gen.

Where are you getting the 23 MPG figure for the new Tacoma? The new Tacoma OR is rated at 19/23 (20) which is basically identical to the 18/22 (20) for the outgoing OR model. My guess is that range will be reduced by 25-50 miles per tank. Perhaps the hybrid will gain some of that range back.

Yeah, my numbers were off. Had to get #s from two different sites since 2024 mpg isn't "official". Some sites had city/hwy/comb others had city/comb/hwy.

Agreed. I’ll be impressed if the new 2024 Tacoma gets 5-6mpg better than my 2021. If it does, I would certainly be more interested. Not at $60,000 though.

Exactly, a $10,000-20,000 increase in what most of us paid buys a lot of fuel!

Not to worry…it won’t, unless you get the 2WD SR with 245/70/17 street tires…

Yup. As soon as you add some people and gear to the truck and drive anything but a flat highway in a tail wind at 60 mph your mileage will plummet. Add some tires that aren’t crappy highway tread and you’ll lose some more mpgs.

If MPG/range is your main concern, all of the midsize trucks are going to disappoint you.

Realistically they are all probably going to average 18 mpg. The Colorado would be the better option for range and convenience of not needed to get gas every few days. At 18 mpg and 15 gallons til the gas light the Tacoma is only going 270 miles. That’s absolutely horrendous. These designers are idiots.

It’s pretty crazy when you look on fuelly and all the Tacoma gens get pretty much the same mpg. 1st gen actually has the highest average at 20 for a couple years. I’d like to know what could be accomplished with a 2nd or 3rd gen V6 with a new 10 speed transmission.

Up here in WI I average 22 MPG March-Oct and about 19 MPG Nov-February. Michelin Defenders and all stock minus the cap. With my granny driving habits I could probably nurse the fourth gen to 23+ MPG in the summer.
