Was able to get the center of the back wall finished out yesterday and attached.

    PXL_20231126_193254806.MP.jpg

We then started on the sides of the back wall and decided to do them at an angle instead of flush with the center section. The drivers side will also be where a few 12v power sources will be located so that piece I wanted to be easily removable.

    PXL_20231127_010448476.jpg

Next step is to remove all the wood and make sure everything is insulated in the dead space, figure out the floor storage access doors, seal the MDF, paint it some in a few areas that won't get carpet, carpet it, then add in the 12v lights and power outlets.

I'm wrestling with the same thing, although I don't have a cool molle panel. Just driving it around today without the factory seats, with the back wall sound deadened was awful. That vent is like a sound conductor for anything going on under the truck. Every puddle splash, every creak of the suspension. I need to do SOMEthing about that vent.
The plan is to use some 2" foam over the sound deadening, and carpet over all of it. Still that will be useless with the sound that vent's bringing in. Maybe I can "pool noodle" it over on the outside?

I ended up filling the gaps between the horizontal supports with hard foam, put a layer of soft foam over the vent hole, and then covered it with a layer of black ripstop fabric under the panel. The soft foam cut down on the noise significantly, aside from a whistle, which went away on its own after a few months.

Well, plumbing insulation didn't work. I couldn't get it in there (pushing noodles up a hill effect...). So I patched between the interior horizontals with leftover styrofoam, and put closed cell foam over the top of the vent. I'll cover all that with the soft foam, then carpet.

Has anyone built a platform in the “60” space that would be level with the folded down single “40” seat?
I would like to leave the single seat in the truck, folded down, and have storage on the other side with a level surface across the entire section.

The rear seat insulates noise and gets removed.
Does that 100% get addressed by adding insulating mat?

im looking to do something similar as KFlo Ultimate Backseat mod, with spare plywood left over from a sleeping platform

planning to make a low bottom re using seat hinges so it can tilt up to access factory storage cubby

and maybe removing the big obtrusive plastic rear “organizer” to simply put a MOLLE panel there (after insulating mat)

and maybe another vertical plywood, also tilting on seat hinges with latches added to lock in place

I’d guess wood + insulating mat will be fine. If not, then another layer of mat stuck onto the backside of the wood. Maybe painted black bedliner for texture.

that the wood can have cargo hooks put on
Should be way cheaper than stuff like Goose Gear

re: folks plastidipping the lower storage tub and whatnot
Does it have replaceable drain caps like most cars?
I hope so. Would make it easier to spray everything down with water and degreaser to brush clean first as prep.

Yep. I’ve got sound deadening and the OEM mat. Still much louder.

I mean, I have an ABS backer board and sound deadening behind my MOLLE panel and I'm nearly back to OEM in terms of noise - it's louder but not like it was prior to the backer board. Just saying, it can be done.

maybe a second layer of Raamat or a better material could do it
or a different material layer or padding put behind a MOLLE panel and at the bottom of underseat tub

No amount of deadening is going to effectively stop the sound of an open cab vent from being excessive - it needs a block. Some people have tried to put in open cell foam blocks, some have tried deadening the inside and outside of the vent, I even tried both a closed cell deadening and the tar type, a block of foam and a drawer liner over the top - for a quick minute I used a sheet of Kydex just over the area of the exhaust intake, and it worked better, so I went for a full back board like the OEM design and found it very effective. That, thus far, has been the most majorly effective change in sound after removing the rear panels and adopting a MOLLE panel rear wall. The pictures of it are here in the thread.

Finally got my life together and installed some sound deadening on my rear seat delete and rear wall of my cab. It only took me 2.5 years. I didn’t get wildly obsessive with it but I’m sure anything is better than nothing.

I also noticed a hole in my floor. Looks factory haha

Adding progress pics and finished product (so far). Went with killmat, then foam, then 1/4” king starboard (way cheaper than the 1/2in solution early in this thread). Haven’t driven it yet with this setup. Drove with just the bare metal and boy that was bad. Excited and nervous to try it. I imagine I will take it apart again and add more sound deadening. That vent is really a PITA. I cut it up but I doubt that will help.

There's two reasons it was scoop shaped, one was to add an additional wall for sound to bounce off, instead of it being a straight shot through the cab, the additional bend would help reduce received road noise. The second reason, though, was for water intrusion. Since it's just a pressure vent, it tends to stick open a little bit when you're going down the road with the A/C on but not recirculate. If you got water spray in it, it would drip back out and not invade the cab. At the very least I would tell you to add a lip to the part you cut off, just for that margin of safety. I mean, chances are super low that it becomes an issue, but not low enough in my head for me to cut the scoop off.

Both reasons make sense and I think the second is more important. Water is a word I pay a lot of attention to with things made of metal. That being said, I seem to be a massive fan of driving through dirty water so I use dirt left behind by water as a good indicator for the ability of water to get places in the truck. I found the piece to be very clean, so I cut it up and covered it in two layers of killmat and one layer of foam. I don’t anticipate any issues although I think it is a great point.

That being said I drove the truck and I think the deadening in the rear sounds better than factory now. Pleasantly surprised.

Hi Gomer, I found the proper holes in the cab floor to bolt down the platform against the back of the cab wall (the three holes in a row), but I’m not totally sure about these four. Maybe they mount the platform where the plastic trays are clipped in to the steel floor of the truck? What kind of hardware did you use there (or maybe I’m looking at it completely wrong).
