Working on replacing the leaf springs on my 2006 4x4. I have the frame supported in front of the front leaf spring hangers and a jack under the rear axle at the 3rd member. On the pass side leaf I have the u-bolts, shackle bolts, and front hanger bolt removed. I lowered the axle so that there is no pressure on the leaf springs (2 inch gap between leaf spring and perch on axle) .

Even though the bolt is out, the leaf won't come out of the front hanger. Tried a prybar to no avail. Does anyone have a trick for getting this out? Almost seems like the ears of the hanger are pinched together too tight?

You have to cut it, its miserable.

What I do is cut the head off, then use the nut on the backside to pull it through while air chiseling the bolt through.

I couldnt imagine doing a seized one at home.

Probably a bit of pinching as well as rust between ears and steel center bushing acting like a weld. Heat area of ears at bolt holes with propane torch and jam a crow bar between spring end and frame. Hammer on bar may be necessary. It WILL come out with some persuasion. These parts have 2000 lbs bouncing up and down all day long. You won’t hurt it.

All six bolts were seized when I pulled the leafs on my sons 20 year old cherokee. No joy with air hammer; all done with cut off tool. Can confirm it is An awefull job to do while laying on the ground. Was picking chunks of melted rubber off my jacket for a week. All said, WAY less painful than installing new ring and pinion gears while laying on the ground. Yes, now I know I should have just pulled the axle when the leafs were out. Experience is a cruel teacher.
