I made it home but I will go back and fish that river again and do some exploring as well. To be in east that is a good chunk of country with nothing in it. It’s where Georgia South Carolina and North Carolina come together with lots of national forest in each state. And I didn’t hear any banjo music :D

Yes. But we are at a better location tonight. Still windy.

Here is a C5 flyby from our camp, near star wars canyon

    Death Valley is very scenic

Is that a Dirt road or a trail needing 4wd ????

I miss watching military aircraft going thru Star Wars canyon Jedi loop

You wont see much activity in Star Wars canyon - Jedi loop anymore since a F/A -18 crashed into the canyon wall killing the pilot a few years ago . The military banned training flights below 1500 feet thru the canyon

i remember that. but they do still fly there, jsut no as often and not as low
those are crazy planes. they look like they move sooooo slow, amazing how all that weight can stay up in the air.
several years ago i was down in Grand Teton Park and got to see a C17 do a couple of touch and go's at the airport. I think it was a crew training for a POTUS visit maybe? They haul all of the motorcade and SS stuff around in those. Anywho... the plane dipped down low and then came back up into view and then it turned TOWARDS the mountains to loop around and do it again. I was shocked because those are some big damn mountains the airport is pretty close to the base of them.

When I was active duty back in the early 80's at MCAS El Toro we had weekly flights of C141 Star Lifters . They had to land or take off on our longest runways which were 10k ft . Taking off fully loaded and empty fuel tanks the C141 would take up to 7k ft of runway before it got off the ground

Once it got off the ground with its engines screaming it looked like it would fall out of the sky it was so slow to gain altitude . They had KC135 refuelers waiting to get fuel onboard once the C141's reached level flight . Even watching these aircraft land was crazy as almost every C141 had brake or tire fires trying to stop at end of the 10k ft runway

Our Crash crew was kept very busy with that aircraft
