You can get the SR in 4WD too, but loose 2 mpgs. Which isn’t too terrible considering how much a 4WD system weighs.

Have either of you heard of the Lightning, Cybertruck, or Rivian that all get 60+ MPGe, go 0-60 in sub 4 seconds, all while weighing 2+ tons and shaped as bricks? Pretty easy way to achieve this, Toyota has just lagged behind the competitors creating BEV's.

Allegedly a BEV Toyota truck coming in 2026, fingers crossed. The lightning will be in its 2nd year of its 2nd gen by then.

We were talking about ICE and ICE Hybrid trucks and you know that. Not a 3 or 4+ ton EV. I would love a PHEV truck as 95% of my drives are less than 15 mins on roads under 50MPH. Have an BEV midsize truck and I would consider that as well.

Client of ours just got the Rivian SUV, sure is sharp looking. Seeing more and more Lightnings on the road here (even if they are poor sellers) would work for 90% of the driving I do. It’s the short loaded/towing range, and hit or miss charging off the main routes while traveling that keeps me out of one. Like one do-it-all vehicle. EVs aren’t there quite yet.

If the solid state batteries could achieve 500-600 mile range that would cure that. Seems like a lot but wouldn’t have to charge it that much for commuting either which would be less strain on the grid.

This just popped up in my feed. Why people are leery of EV trucks.

Apparently you don't understand the concept of "context". This post of yours was an epic fail.

Ooooh just predictable, Bat700 always posts something about EVs when people are bitching about mpgs, just the same as I mention diesel is the way if you want better mpgs in a truck.

Mike Sweers wanted one for the Tundra, (probably would have found its way into the Tacoma if he had his way) but was shot down by corporate over those pesky emissions regs, gosh dernnit! :)

I read that a few days ago. What a disaster the chargers are. The part where the truck said 320 miles of range and then dropped to 200 as soon as they backed out of the driveway is nice too. How are these manufacturers allowed to lie about EV range and also gas mpgs? It’s ridiculous.

    I know, uh!

The Tundra Hybrid is not getting anywhere near epa ratings. Only trucks that are succeeding the ratings are the GM 1500 diesel twins, of course seems like majority of the posters on here hate diesels, and GM for that matter.

Well my sister just drove a brand new Ford Expedition limited from Loveland Colorado to Cincinnati Ohio for Christmas. One way, just stopping every other rest stop for the dog and gas when needed. Over 1225 miles, and got 25.6 on the dash calculator, and 25.9 by the smartphone calculator. She was loaded to the gills with a total of 3 teenagers, and 2 adults, a small dog, everyone's clothes, and gifts for the entire family.

Truly unbelievable MPG from a tank sized vehicle!

So I am calling bull$#!t on Toyota's "can't get any better mpg". And you all know that the hybrid model will just add 1 more mpg to these disappointing numbers in a few months.

I wish I was brave enough to run red diesel. By the time you factor in fuel cost difference the savings are minimal. I ran the math and getting 27 mpg in a diesel v 19 in my Tacoma only saves $50 over 15,000 miles. However if you need a larger truck or tow something and don’t want to hate life the diesel wins hands down.

Cost-wise it only makes sense if you use non-ethanol. Usually it is more than diesel. I run it in the bikes and power equipment. Non-ethanol can bump your mpgs up slightly I have seen half to 1 mile increase, not worth the extra cost though.

Like anything, try and solve one problem three others arise. Want decent mileage? It will cost ya! Upfront, price of fuel, then repair cost of diesel and its’ emissions equipment is generally quite a bit more.

Yeah, we all thought so too. There was 9 of us in it going to dinner one evening. Short ride of about 12 miles of back roads to city stop and go. The dash said 22. Best I have seen on the same drive in my truck is 20. I drove, rode like a tank on a cloud. Felt totally deft and just drifted along.

There was a post somewhere on here at tacomaworld that mentioned Toyota didn't care about mpg.
