Are any of the turbo components titanium?

I get it. Little more than a minor disappointment.

 

I'll have to look but I don't think anything that touches oil on my setup is titanium. I'm pretty sure the nut that holds the compressor wheel on is titanium but it's very far upstream. My exhaust wheel is inconel so I don't think it's that. I couldn't find a definite answer for whether or not stock intake valves on a 5vz are titanium or not. It's not uncommon but it would be a little uncommon for a truck motor

Looks like even in a virgin oil test of this oil I'm using, done this year too so should be same stock... Titanium is likely an additive they're using for something. Kinda neat to see the other metals present in a virgin sample.

 

Nice find. Looks like you found the source of Titanium. Some of those values are surprising.

 

Interesting there isn't any Moly in that sample. Isn't that a common oil additive?

 

I think it can be but a lot like Zinc it is highly restricted in use because it fouls modern emissions equip, it should also be present in some quantities in engine components too.

Here is one from Valvoline MaxLife 5W-30 which is for higher mileage, looks like a lot more moly present in oils for "worn" engines

I have been running Mobil 1 5w30 for forever...until recently. When we came across that Amsoil windfall I ran it for 2 changes. Was not all that impressed with the test results and have used Costco's Kirkland Signature 5w30 for the last two changes. Any idea of who is making Costco's oil for them?

It would be interesting to see a virgin comparison between Mobil 1 and the Costco oil. The sample I just sent off is the Costco stuff.

 

I don't recall who makes it but here's the results from a virgin analysis. The BITOG guys think it is a Warren blend, so same as Valvoline, Amazon Basics, and SuperTech

 

Just finish reading through this and this is a nice build you have here. Nice work on tuning the 2.0 smoothies. I have the same units and they definitely need some tweaking. Im curious is your exedy clutch stage 1 or 2?

 

Thanks! I went with the stage 1, the stage two was hard to get my hands on in the US. But luckily so fare it's been an excellent clutch

 

How much power do you think you’re making? That clutch seems to be the sweet spot for performance, drivability and longevity as long as it holds.

 

I'm fairly confident it's around 330 crank, maybe like 280 wheel. Torque at the crank is probably in the neighborhood of 375 ft lb. I'm hoping to get some dyno time in February to finish some fine tuning and get numbers. I'll have to steal my Land Cruisers wheels and tires though since our new Dyno in town said no mud terrains. So I'll be testing on 33" tires instead of 35s.

 

I’m hopeful you’re right on those figures because I bought the same 5vz pressure plate for my 2tr paired with a stage 1 disc for a 3rz. Fingers crossed it’ll work. I’m trying to avoid a ceramic disc for drivability reasons so I’m excited to see what this clutch maxes out at.

 

If that one doesn't work out for you but I hope that it does... I've got a guy in Georgia that builds custom clutches that we've used in the past and he can build organic clutches that hold into the ceramic clutch range. The guys a magician.

Just got the RedHead's oil report back from Blackstone. Things continue to improve and are looking good. Based on this report, I feel good about using the OEM paper air filters and the Costco synthetic 5w30 oil.

Well, I guess I have to keep the pre-filter on, which is fine. Looks to be getting better which is fine by me.
