I'm not like my coworkers in that respect. Any ounce of "off time" I'm allowed in my contract gets used. No exceptions. I work with some people that have never used their vacation time, I'm like you dumb mother fucker it doesn't get paid out to you unless you use it and it doesn't roll forward every year... It's not just dumb it's financially irresponsible not to take those days. But during lunch I turn off my phone and I don't take calls man

I don't understand the people that wear the "never take time off" thing like a badge of honor, it's one thing if you can't (like trying to get your own business off the ground), but working for a company and being given PTO and willfully not using it has got to fall under some kind of mental illness.

It was more hyperbole but yeah. I align with you on how I feel on sick time/PTO. Like sick time is used for Dr appointments or being sick. PTO should used for enjoyment. So my boss is super chill that I use my sick time for court stuff because that is not enjoyable lol

Whenever I fill out a time off form and check off 'vacation time', our accounting lady always gives it back to me and tells me to mark it "sick" instead. I guess our sick days don't carry over but our pto/vacation time does, so they tell us to use all the sick days first.

I know what you mean... Actually that's one thing my work is really good about that's why I don't understand why people don't take advantage of it. I almost just want to ask if I can transfer over those people's PTO to me. Saving your sick days is actually a sickness in my business because when it comes to retirement time you can cash them out to pay for your medical insurance if there's a gap between that and when Medicare takes over. So I've got coworkers with thousands of sick days... You can understand the kind of problem that actually causes in a school system

My boss doesn't care if I used sick time for play time. I have 31 days of pto to use but have no money to enjoy it with haha

    same

speaking of which, prior to this year employers only had to give 3 days of paid sick leave. CA increased it to 5 for this year, so got an extra 2 days of PTO basically.

I always forget how our vacation PTO system works, it accumulates based on hours you put in.

Our sick days are intended for sick time, I know some people abuse it and use it for fun first, I just can't bring myself to that. I'm grateful to have them at all. I think back out how insane my previous jobs were that no vacation time until after a year of employment. Fucking wild.
People are weird. Either they don't have hobbies or they are hiding from something at home.
31 days is awesome! I think I am about half that these days, plus two weeks sick, plus 4 personal days. You don't need to spend money when you use them, sometimes you just need a day to yourself to reset your mental state.

We get 160 hours of pto and 48 sick hours every January and can carry over 40.

and we only have to use 8 hours instead of 10 when we take a day off

damn that place takes care of you guys, that's awesome

I think I start with 30 hours of pto at the beginning of the year and then you gradually accumulate more throughout based on hours put in. But damn that's nothing compared to yours lol.

Yeah I think that's pretty standard, might even be law in some states I'm not sure. If a federal holiday falls on a weekend you get the following Monday off, at least that's what our place does. And they don't really do much beyond what they're mandated to do as far as that stuff goes.

Oh for sure, our work systems just set up to work 5 days a week but we only work four, so we get an extra day off everyday now and then

Not taking paid time off makes no fucking sense.

Wife only worked 3 weeks in October, and maybe 2 weeks in January all of last year?

She took her maternity leave and baby bonding.

yeah the latter especially is important. Rebecca is going to offer 6 months of paid time off for her full time employees that take leave for birth of a child this year. That's like double what the state mandates, and they don't mandate that it be paid at all...just that you can't be let go during that time.
