I read on a 395 Facbook page that there was a controlled burn that happened around that time frame in that area.

Had another great trip to Bishop this week. This time I brought my Brother and a buddy to do some bouldering. It's starting to get chilly at night but the weather during the day was perfect! My only complaint was the rain. It started raining every time we put on our climbing shoes which was kind of funny. Besides that it was still a great trip! I climbed in some new areas around Crowley Lake that I need to go back and explore a bit more. Overall I would rate it a 7/10 trip. Can't wait to get back for some snow!

We do not name anything on the Sherwin. Nada. Zip. Zero. No worthy bouldering anywhere near there. As a PSA I'd like to remind everyone to stick the the Buttermilks and the Happies. Iron Man and The Hulk truly are the best you'll find in the Bishop/Mammoth area. lol

I checked it out, nothing there. Just a mediocre view of the ditch and a boring drive

    Perfect. lol

I just noticed the Tuolumne in your profile. Do you work there seasonally? I've spent a lot of time in the Meadows climbing and fucking off in general. lol

I was seasonal in the Meadows and High Country, lived at the base of Yose Falls in a cabin, and bounced between that and Arcata, as well as some FS work in the Stan.

My folks are in Groveland, I'm in Salida for the time being.

Not a bad way to spend the summers for a few years. I was a regular at the Tuolumne SAR site for more then a few seasons. Really not stoked they're re-establishing the permit system for 2024. I understand the reasoning and it's sound. It just sucks living an hour away and not being able to take a sick day and go climb on some of the best granite in the US. lol

Didn't realize that until reading this. Guess I'll plan on a not-July/August weekday trip, since it's always a "am I waking up early enough to do this instead of just driving home over 108" kind of thing.

Yep. It popped up in my news feed last week.

I miss the old Meadows. The ones you could actually get a parking spot on a weekend at the store without a wait. Now, where'd I put my member berries? lol

In that case I don't remember where I went but wherever it was it must've been in the Buttermilks

All this Bishop chatter makes me wish it were March already for my annual spring break journey to the area!

The permit system sucks but I totally get why they're doing it, the park is PACKED in the summer time. It's really a balance between letting everyone who wants to see the park see it while also keeping it wild with as little human impact as possible. It's honestly a good thing so many people visit the parks because it'll help keep them funded for future generations, but man do I hate the crowds. The good thing is most of those crowds stay in the valley and if it isn't your very 1st time in Yosemite you can visit the other less impacted, yet still beautiful, areas of the park without missing out on much. I personally think Zion has the right idea with a solid shuttle system.

As a side note it blows my mind the average visit time in Yosemite is something like 2 hours. Like what are you even doing for those 2 hours? Sitting in traffic? Lol

Yea, I know... Wish they'd extend the "drive thru" locals list to include day use too.

Now that I've got a dog my Park visitation has been greatly reduced anyway. I've seen enough of it, haha

What sucks is they’re calling it another trial. And again, no pass through. For many, it cuts a significant amount of time off the journey to the east side.

Won’t be long till its system wide.

Has anyone here done a trip through the Inyo/White mountains from bottom to top? I spent the better part of my day looking at all the dirt roads through the range can came up with this route:
    White Mountains.jpg

I'm sure it's not something that could be done in winter but it could be a fun summer trip. I have the trip starting on the 190 and ending in Bishop. Total length is 180mi and I tried to make it pass through some interesting areas and structures the best I could. You could also take some offshoots to check out other things if you don't mind back tracking a bit. Unfortunately the part between Cerro Gordo and Mazuorka Peak has no connecting roads so you need to come off the mountain and take the dirt road or the 395 until the next entrance. If you did the trip on a Motorcycle you could cut off the part where you need to drive down the 168. According to the MVUM maps I was looking at the only connecting trail is single track, so not big enough for a car.

I've traveled most of those roads but never in a single push. The only clue I'll give you is there are a ton of unmapped roads. Your well built enough that I feel giving you that clue won't cause any major issues. For anyone else reading this. If your not dual locked and capable of self-recovery stick to the sign posted mapped roads. lol
