Just trying to get some insights.

Im not mechanically inclined beyond the bolt on mods, especially rear diffs.

Valley Differentials quoted $1950 installed for an Eaton e-locker (parts and labor).

my indecisive nature is asking myself…

Install the e-locker on my 1st Gen or install it on my 4th 4Runner, which have a center diff lock.

I’m content and impressed with the capability of the 4th Gen.

but… have the love for the 1st Gen and all it is missing is a rear locker.

Thats not bad considering your only paying about $500 in labor. It can be a messy job. I ran around for the past 3 years with only a rear locker and it definitely made my 1st gen go almost anywhere it wanted.

Question for the folks who are experienced in driving in the snow: I'm headed to Tahoe in a couple days, headed back home Friday evening before the storm rolls through on Saturday. Do you guys air down at all? Not too experienced myself but I do have 4x4 with ko2s and a decent amount of weight in the rear (bed rack, rtt, and decked).

I don't air down. Just take it slow and give enough room between yourself and others. Remember there are no quick stopsin the snow or on ice.

    Safe travels!!!!

4x4 doesn’t help you stop so leave MORE room.

Depends on the snow imo. If you're talking about road driving with snow, I don't air down, just drive slow, easy throttle and easy brakes, leave extra room. If you're going through lots of corners brake early and throttle a bit early to fight understeer. Neutral throttle makes the vehicle more unstable, so does a fast accel or brake and the respective weight transfers.

If you're in deep snow or off road (off piste if you get the joke) then yea I air down to like 8 psi on non bead lock cooper stt pros.

Realistically, hwy 50 and 80 and 88 are all plowed so it shouldn't be a concern. If they had a foot of standing snow they'd close the highways even though for most of us 12" of snow is no factor. My truck on 35s drives through 24" of good snow no problem. It's honestly not much different than driving on sand.

Ice is the biggest concern, night time and lower elevations will have ice. Chains are good if you can fit them, but driving is the same, easy throttle, easy brake, lots of room.

Oh interesting about neutral throttle, never knew that. I assumed neutral would allow for most traction. Thank you for all the pointers, appreciate it! Yeah just going up 80 (not off piste lol) to Palisades and I'm not expecting a whole lot of snow on the road. Just curious about how other folks drive in the snow.
