3rd Gen DCSB Rock Sliders on a 2nd Gen ACLB? 65% off at 4WP?!

OK, so 2nd gen and 3rd gen frames are nearly identical, and a double cab short bed has the same wheelbase as an access cab long bed...so in theory rock sliders for a 3rd gen DCSB will probably fit a 2nd gen ACLB, correct? Maybe a little drilling, but nothing major I'm guessing?

Anyway, this was too good of a deal to pass up so I ordered a set. Worst case scenario I sell them on FB marketplace for what I paid...or I just do a little fab work, because the steel to build my own sliders would be like $400 anyway. And these look like they'd work really well as side steps...which I kinda need with a 6" lift and no more running boards since a drunk driver T-boned me last month.

Will I regret buying these? Is there something I don't know besides 4WP changing ownership and their stores turning into Total Offroad & More? I haven't been active on forums in a long time so I'm worried I'm missing something, because $300 for rock sliders sounds too good to be true.

Bro!!! I ordered them with the mindset that at $300 I'll drill some holes in my frame if necessary!!! Picking up on Saturday, but I did see the picture of a gen2 sb with them. Good luck I'll post pics later this weekend

 

I tried selecting ship to store and 4WP couldn’t find my local store that’s like 5 miles away. I checked yelp and apparently it’s not a 4wheel parts anymore! I wonder if they’re changing the product line and clearing out old inventory, because $300 sounds like cost or even below cost. Even with shipping it’s still way cheaper than anything else though. Glad you were able to snag a pair! I definitely ordered before sharing the deal on here lol.

 

I did notice at the very bottom of the website was hoonigan affiliated. Not sure if that was always ther, pretty sure clearing out any 4wp logoed merchandise. Hoping theyr not to heavy though.

 

I mean, people weld their own sliders. So a fabricator could probably modify them if you need it.

I don't think Toyota changed much on the chassis going from 05-15 to 16-23, besides doubling the price.

Supposedly the frame has one little thing different, added, on outside 2/3rds section in a small area towards the front, like a bump or something, that their sliders accommodate for
but really any slider might accommodate for that due to how they're mounted.
While sliders vary in coverage and more coverage/contact to the frame is considered better than ones with less,
few, if any, are complete 100% contact

so if there is a frame difference there, it may not matter

For example, at the frame mounts, you can see these CBI's have a gap.

 

I just finished the install of sliders, not ideal fit I have long bed and the rear brackets did not line up with the rear crossmember. I had to drill 2 holes on bottom. Most likely a couple more through the side and will need to buy more bolts. Other than that cannot complain for the price. I am going to figure out a solution to the crossmember possibly get welded .

sliders usually come in two fitment
1. ACLB / DCSB
2. DCLB

 

Yes slider specifically said 16-20 shortbed and only in that configuration, for the price I had to take that gamble. They seem solid. Don't cover full length from tire to tire, but it'll save my cab from damage

 

Can you describe what you mean that the rear bracket doesnt line up?

I just ordered these and talked to a 4WP store who said that one of the rear screws wont line up, but its a minor mounting point and isnt very important to overall strength. I am curious if this was your experience.

 

Interested in this as well. That is a great price and even with shipping its 500$.

Does the front line up and I will have to drill a hole and get a couple of bolts for the back?

 

It sounds like SethM wasnt able to bolt this bracket on the rear cross member and drilled holes for additional bolts along the bottom to increase strength.

If you really want to, though it may not be that important

it’s probably possible to weld on a plate with holes in it for additional mounting support. Though that would be a lot of work. And mess with the finished powdercoat. Adding expense that makes it no longer cheap.

I guess time will tell to see if it passes the test. If it’s able to be jacked up with a hi lift, and survive impacts that it’ll surely do better than a step bar that mangles in 2 seconds

 

Tried installing them and they didn’t fit due to misalignment on some holes for existing rivet heads to fit in. Looks like at least 5 holes will need to be widened/drilled per slider. I am going to sell them and look for another option. If I can’t sell, I guess I’ll try drilling. Such a shame.

well, i chose to just drill. Took 6hrs and 2 friends. Only needed to drill one hole on the frame on each side.
For anyone doing this in the future, go slow and use the front cross member mounts to line everything up down stream. There are relief holes in the slider to fit rivets on the frame so the slider sits flush that will need to be re-drilled. A couple holes in the frame will need to be expanded a little bit.

 

I have a 2014 double cab short bed and these bolted up zero problems. I used half the parts/brackets they came with as well

 

3rd gen has more brackets to mess with than 2nd
