Only time mine has an attitude is when the wife drives it. Other than that it does have a few odd "quirks" which I'm used to now. Just gas, oil changes and go. Even after 3 years of ownership we still look forward to driving it. We still look back in admiration after parking it. We are still very protective of it as well. Been an awesome and very enjoyable truck so far.

Hey thanks. Mostly stock. I have to say tho all gen Tacoma's are nice looking IMO. Mine is well looked after and shines up quite nice. Part of the enjoyment.

Mine is for sure. She's pretty, but kind of slutty too.

For sure. Some days it’s jerky and I feel everything, other days it drives perfectly and is fairly responsive and smooth. No two drives seem to be alike.

Is this just a transmission thing? Mine is manual so if it’s jerky, that’s on me.

I’d say it’s the truck overall. Some days mine has engine vibrations, sorta rough idle, it will shift weird, etc. other days it’s smooth as can be. Who knows the exact reasoning but it appears other owners agree with my feelings on the matter

i haven't noticed it so much with my taco. mostly just push the button and go.

my brz however is extremely weather-related. the entire driveline is stock, but in the right conditions, everyone is absolutely convinced that it's running a hardcore tune and exhaust system...

Yep. If my transmission starts shifting funny it means I probably fell off the wagon.

I'm sure the D-4s System, Otto/Atkinson cycle and the ECU/TCU programming plays a big role in the quirkiness. Especially when the engine in changing from one to another in a myriad of combinations and conditions.

Even the CCN Should you buy the latest Toyota Tacoma 2016-2021? makes a point about the common concerns with these trucks.

I take comfort in the fact that I won't have to do any walnut shell blasting to remove carbon deposits down the road.

Just think, we'll never have anything like them again. Enjoy what you have while you can. Quirks and all.

Such a true statement. The 2gr-fks and all late model Toyotas with this technology will be around 30 years from now sitting on a farm still workhorses and still running and living up to their QDR selling points . Where other manufactured engines will be so crudded up with carbon they won’t even be worth fixing

My fave though is when salty 2nd Genners feel the need to chime in 3rd Gen threads praising their magnificent and superior machine.:)
