25 year Jim Beam vs Fresh Jim Beam…blind taste test:

    IMG_7510.jpg IMG_7513.jpg IMG_7514.jpg

Did a side by side pour and taste test. My wife noticed one was darker in color and correctly guessed that was the late 90’s bottle. She couldn’t tell a difference in flavor.

I covered my eyes and went by taste alone. I couldn’t tell the difference.

Not a scientific study…but data was obtained.

BTW…I plan to use the Beam as a mixer. My dad (who bought this bourbon, I’m sure) was one of Jim Beam’s biggest fans. “Beam and water on lots of ice” was his go to, up until they put him on blood thinners and he had to give it up.

Dad’s been gone 13 years now. You guys do me a favor? The next time you drink Jim Beam, raise a glass to Dave. He was an awesome guy and heck of a father. Very blessed.

Well done, I'm jealous of the Toasted Mitchers. I've got a few backups of the normal MBSR, but zero of the toasted.

Bottle kill January continues, tonight's victim is an Eagle Rare store pick. Doubt I complete the obituary tonight, but only time will tell. IMG_0039.jpg

I've only seen it for $169 in denver, what is the current MSRP? I heard they bumped it this year.
Edit: holy crap $69.99 for Wild Turkey Single Barrel.

According to some people the BS is the better of the two, and the best of the Michter’s ryes.

I've had both and I like the Toasted slightly better. I have four of the standard MBSR, if anyone feels inclined to trade I'd be over the moon to get a Toasted in return.

I might be interested in that. I may have killed enough open bottles recently to permit opening a barrel strength, if I like it as I’ve been told I will, I’ll get in touch.

First pour of the night was Old Elk Wheated which, was dumped immediately. Intense doughy note that was terrible to me. Had it before and enjoyed it so was not expecting that. I’ll chase that with this tasty pour.

I have an act 6 of 8, can't remember. I planned on trading for something, never got around to it.

That’s a great fucking idea, one I sadly didn’t have earlier. Probably would’ve been magnificent. No, the wife and I each had a small pour from each which is all that was left.

She killed an Eagle Rare heel on the trip.

Between the above and a holiday party making mixed drinks for a crowd, I’m down six open bottles which really cleans up the liquor cabinet nicely…

Got my first this year at MSRP. Tried it. It's fine but not overly noteworthy.

    I endorse this position.

    Not much stock left.
Attended a Japanese whisky tasting. All were good, hard to pick a single one, but the Nikka’s were all tasty.

My contribution was the following. I held onto the Michters for my personal use. A bonus purchase.

    No Hibiki Harmony?

    That is absolutely shameful.

Nikka From The Barrel is my favorite Japanese whisky though. Even though it's now...technically...not Japanese whisky anymore. So I guess the title goes to Hibiki Blossom Harmony.

Edit: Also, nice dome you got there Mr. Clean.

Is that a 17 year Nikka? How was that one?
