Im always amazed at people who get in the I-40 during a snow storm with cars that are just absolutely not equipted.

Then you wind up with this. (I-40 back in 2019, but happens every year)

Here is the Flagstaff Train station livecam, usually you can catch folks playing on the train tracks.

It's the same all over the country. The first snow back in Ohio was guaranteed to be a shit show of cars and semi's playing pinball on the freeways and surface streets.

Can you imagine the chaos if it ever snowed proper in the Valley? It'd be a total societal breakdown. :burp:

I remember reading about that happening to Atlanta (I think)

Just one inch of snow in a place that usually doesn’t ever snow caused complete chaos

That always happens in Seattle when it snows. Because of the hills, even a half-inch can shut the entire city down.

There was a dustingof snow/ice in Memphis while the gf was in school there. You'd think a hurricane was going to hit. Empty shelves at the grocery store, fuel lines, general panic. The whole county shut down.

When I lived in IN and OH I learned how to drive in snow. I also learned the first rule of snow driving: First snow of the year, do not drive until the morons have "thinned the herd".

Turned onto Birch today and there was a happy family sledding...in the damn road!

Surprised there was no sheriff's out at the snow play area on 180 today, last season they was always a good presence to keep to keep the dumbs in line.

My favorite is the families with their kids sledding on the side of the I-17.
Ridiculous but I guess its cheaper than saving for college.

Its sad that a young boy getting killed off 180 last year wasnt enough for people to learn.

It was in the paper a few times, family had stopped along 180 at the little pull off just before the turn to snowbowl. Kid ran out between parked cars and was hit.

    @saidyoudid beat me to it.

sad story. out of town people think they can go play in snow at snowbowl and then get turned around, then they wind up parking in dumb places to play in dumb places.

2nd largest county in the country and folks decide to play on the side of highways...

On a lighter note, I had a blast sledding with my son today.
Out sled is starting to get worn out / beat up, but everything Ive seen in stores is plastic disposable garbage.

    Any recommendations?

Stuff that costs more than my wife thinks.
I lived there when it happened, and yes, this is accurate. I had to go pick up my buddy's girlfriend who couldn't even make it out of her work parking lot. We also lived in a duplex that had a terrible shower leak, so I had to rip out drywall that left us a large opening behind the laundry room, straight into our storage cellar area. It was fantastic.

The issue was the infrastructure was NOT prepared for the weather, plows and salt trucks were so hard to come by. The worst part, was that the snow would melt, then refreeze and ice the roadways. Add in that no one is prepared, and you've got a lot of Pontiacs and Cadillacs that had no business being on the road, well... off of the road.
