I would have to agree with Charli. I wish it was the year 1997, so I could get another new one instead of my 2008. These cars aren't trucks anymore.

It isn't just Toyota. Try buying a Nissan if you think Toyota's paint is bad. This seems to be a common issue with Japanese makes nowadays.

Of course, I haven't had any paint problems but most people don't wash every 1-2 weeks and wax every 3 months either.

I'll tell you with the weather we've had this past week i'm really craving heated mirrors and a rear defrost. tow package should be standard on all v6 trucks, i hate that i would have had to spend 6000 more for a truck with a tow package although looking back i should have gotten a trd OR

    Just the basics
I have had three Toyota trucks. They keep getting more bells and whistles. This is a trickle down effect. Toyota should have definitely moved more quickly to make sure some changes where made sooner. Paint has been decreasing in quality on imports for years. I owned a Scion tC, it did have mp3 capable stereo and a year after it was introduced they changed it to have an aux input and also an option for an iPod. Auto windows up/down were standard and should be with our trucks. It is an easy factory mod.

When I purchased my second truck, a 99 Tacoma, there was no TRD Sport. The Off-Road was very cool at the time. They also offered a Limited Edition with leather interior and just about every option you could get from Toyota at the time. Not sure if it had a lockable glovebox though.

All in all I do believe Toyota listens to users and market research. The 09s have blacked out headlamps, backup cameras, aux input, mp3 capability, a subwoofer in the access cabs (looks lame) and my access cab has a bumper for the seatbelt latch so it doesn’t scrape the soft plastic. My 90 pickup had vinyl trim near the windows and a soft padded dash. The base models had metal on the bottom of the door window frames. Guess they cannot please everyone.

We need to get a bit more organized for someone to listen. I decided to put the list in a better format. I decided to put the list in better format. Please add to it as you see fit. I’ve also made some comments and/or saved those made by other members.

The complete list of most of your rants/raves/gripes/praises:

    1. SR5 4x4 reg cab doesn’t come with enough options
    2. Locking gas cap/door
    3. Lockable tailgate
    4. Locking glove box
    5. Aux port on stereo
    6. Heated mirrors
    7. Hood struts instead of brace required to keep hood open
    8. Power seats
    9. Heated seats
    10. Rear disk brakes
    11. Under hood illumination
    12. Cargo illumination
    13. Illuminated 4x4 dial knob (c’mon Toyota is this so hard to do?)
    14. Illuminated ignition
    15. Illuminated center console (thing is dark as hell at night. Can't see the cup holders)
    16. Gauge controls led color (blue), (sorry can’t agree with this. As a pilot I know amber is best for night vision. Toyota should make it user selectable)
    17. In-Dash Brake Controller w/Towing Pkg.
    18. Radio on until door open
    19. Opening rear windows (Access Cab)
    20. Access cab rear doors need to open farther
    21. Internal Windshield Antenna (would be costly to replace if windshield were damaged)
    22. Rear power window (one of the coolest aspects of the Tundra, make it standard on all Tacomas)
    23. Metal bed
    24. Cab could be an inch or so taller/Front and back windshield come up higher. Headroom. (I think this would ruin the lines of the vehicle)
    25. Scratch resistant interior
    26. AC Automatic Control
    27. Shorter mud flaps
    28. Beefier rear suspension
    29. Better factory computer (not scanguage, so many other makers have this as part of a package)
    30. Ground clearance similar to the 1st gen. trucks
    31. Drivers seatbelt usually twists and fails to retract fully when removed
    32. Access cab door needs to be almost slammed to get the lower latch to catch
    33. Rear view mirror placement
    34. Stereo AUX jack and wheel control
    35. More durable paint
    36. Better insulation/sound dampening
    37. Optional Navigation
    38. Auto up/down windows (Scion standard option)
    39. Back-up camera (solved on 09s)
    40. Heavy doors,heavy tailgate
    41. Better sound dampening
    42. Horn beep with remote alarm system
    43. Quieter a/c fan blower
    44. 4 leaf springs
    45. Bilstein 5100's
    46. Better tires
    47. Brake pedal closer to the gas pedal (manual trans)
    48. Brake pedal further from the gas pedal (auto trans)
    49. Better brake modulation/feel
    50. Stiffer suspension for O/R package
    51. Better sound system
    52. Adjustable side bolsters
    53. Better (read: faster) throttle response (my old 380k mile 4runner responds faster)
    54. Sunroof/moonroof
    55. Adjustable head restraints fore/aft
    56. Cable release fuel door
    57. Fog light switch
    58. Fog light indicator on/off
    59. Rain sensing windshield wipers (even Hyundai has them now...)
    60. Diesel engine
    61. Way to hold gas cap instead of letting it rest on the truck (solved by putting on the latch, nice suggestion)
    62. Manual Transfer Case
    63. Manual Locking Hubs
    64. Fully boxed Frame
    65. Black interior (too hot for me)

Looks like Toyota entered the 21st century with the 2009.

My truck came with a MP3/WMA capability and AUX input standard.

    Guess someone was listening...

P.S. Yea! My first TacomaWorld post!

    BUILT, not bought...
I'm being totally honest here when I say the only thing I dont like is it every taco doesnt have a tranny cooler.

The rest of that crap about power seats, an defrosters, etc. just means less room under my seats, and more wiring through the cab = YUCK.

    Just my two cents.

Whoever decided to put the trailer-plug on the bottom of the TDR bumper has apparently never driven off-road...

And who the hell decided to illuminate everything on the dash EXCEPT the damn 4x switch???

Fog lights that operate independent of the headlights??? (I know it's fairly standard but I feel I can handle the responsibility of deciding which lighting I think is appropriate)

Other than the seemingly "duh" stuff, I'm stoked on the truck.

Cargo lights for the bed would be a life saver!

Not sure if they come on any upgraded models, but they sure didnt come with my truck.
