I'm searching these forms trying to figure out why my 3rd gen manual is binding up. Luckily nothing this bad. But something is wrong.

Describe what you mean by binding up, and under what conditions does it happen?

Personal option the electric shift sucks, but if you don't use it that is the kind of stuff that happens. Even driving on a straight road switching it in and out of high range every so often helps. I push snow with my 2011, because I use low range to "push" snow instead of launch it I do exercise the high low system every so often year round.

    Hello Everyone,
Hopefully somewhere here can steer me in the right direction.

Earlier today the family and I took our 2014 Trd Sport 4x4 off-roading in some mud and puddles. After the day was done we drove down to the local In-n-Out but when I was about to park I noticed my 4x4 lights were blinking and it was set on 2H. Well seconds later it felt like my truck was on a leash and I could no longer go forward as if my transmission was seized. I could only go backward or forward about 15 ft before it stopped me completely even ion neutral. The only way I could keep moving is if I turned my steering wheel in a different direction. I looked underneath the truck and I did not have any damage. Only think I found on the transfer case actuator was the vacuum hose had a small hole in it and was loosely on. I secured the hole with electrical tape for a quick fix and secured it with a zip tie but had no change in my trucks status. please let me know if you have felt with this before or know how to fix this. Thank you.

Sounds like normal drivetrain bind up when in 4wd on a high traction surface. Get it out of 4wd and your issue will go away.

That hose is now vacuum, it’s a vent hose for the transfer case actuator. I would suggest changing that hose rather soon. Moisture and water intrusion into the transfer case actuator corrodes the electrical contacts. This will lead to not being able to engage or disengage four-wheel-drive

    ****Update****

Turns out my transfer case actuator had about a few sips of muddy water and the contacts for my 2H were shorted and melted down to the plastic surface. Fortunately my neighbor used to work as a mechanic and was able to
Solder a new contact for me until the replacement part arrives tomorrow. The truck is now drivable and is now stuck in 2H with the 4wd and 4lo lights blinking in the dash. My neighbor said that might be due to the soldering or the need for calibration to the actuator.

My experience with the actuator is that if it’s clocked incorrectly(small red encoder gear on cover) you’ll get the 4x4 change mode / abs failure pop up.

Flashing 4/lo lights indicated to me that that the position switches on the cams (below the big gear) are not showing the truck the same shift position between t-case and diff actuators. Unfortunately I don’t have pictures but I believe 2hi is where both limit switches are disengaged but just about to get depressed by ramps on the cams.
